Could I be anemic?

Recommended Posts

I've been noticing over the last month or so that I've been feeling kind of run down, hardly any energy, and sometimes my heart beats fast for no reason. My concentration is also worse than ever (if that's possible; I was tested for ADD three times). My brain just feels "fuzzy". Could I be anemic? I take Vitamins every day so I don't see how I could be, but I guess anything can happen. Anyone ever have similar symptoms? I'm trying to decide if a trip to the doc is worth it. Thanks!

Check the Vitamins you are taking. I was taking a multi Vitamin at first and was absolutely exhausted. Come to find out.... No Iron in it. You need a Multi Vitamin/Mineral. Those have Iron.

Made all the difference in the world for me!

Good Luck

Have you had your blood pressure checked? Those were signs I had when my blood pressure was really high. My primary physician just ran a full panel on Vitamin levels, etc. since I had the band done, he wants to keep an eye on it. I also have severe Vitamin D deficiency which also caused the symptoms you mentioned. I would go see your regular doctor.

I just had my blood pressure checked when I went to my GYN for a checkup a few days ago and it was fine. My Multivitamin definitely has Iron in it, I checked that first. I recently started eating greek yogurt for Breakfast and make sure to have a Protein Bar every day to up my Protein intake. Guess it's time to head to the doctor to find out what's happening.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
