Since being banded, do you notice how much people eat more??

Recommended Posts

Absolutely! When I see the commercials for a place like Olive Garden, and there bottomless Pasta bowls, etc. I say to myself, how could anyone ask for a 2nd dish? I see these huge plates going to peoples tables at restaurants and see the size of the people ordering them and think a 'that was me!" I was never one to overload my plates at buffets, but people want to get their moneys worth. I don't go to buffets anymore. I am taking mu 1st cruise in November, and both my son and I have had lapband surgery. The cruise line is giving us a complementary buffet when we board. Ugh! Oh well will make the best of it. we board around noon. Love this topic! Karen

What about "Checkers", never been to In-Out burger. Checkers and "The King" both have these monster burgers!

I really notice it too. I went to an all-you-can-eat buffet last week and was just gobsmacked by the massive amounts of food that people were inhaling!

No, it's not just you! It honestly disgusts me to watch other people eat. Probably because I know I used to do the same thing.

I find there are times I cant even sit at the dinner table with my husband and 13 yo son- because they eat so fast and so much that it upset me and makes my band get tight. Anybody have that happen?

My band is almost full so maybe that's the reason but I cannot eat at the table with my kids.... the minute there is bickering etc my band tightens up and I'm done. I haven't had a fill in more than 18months so I'm just kind of used to it now. Thought it was just me!

I am wondering if anyone's band and new lifestyle has helped them change things for the kids? I am guessing a lot of people on here have kids who are also on the road to obesity and I wonder if the lifestyle of the band is helping them make changes for their kids...anyone? (i have a skinny vegan daughter so she probably influences me more than the other way!)

I am often shocked at how fast and how much people eat. I sit there and think "Holy crap, did I used to eat like that too?" It actually makes me nauseous thinking about it!

Lol. I was at a memorial service a few days ago. After, there was a beautiful buffet with an open bar. Obviously, I wasn't drinking. I'm only one month banded. But then I observed everyone ( mostly my husband 's guy friends) chowing on massive amounts of food. And I would have been eating everything in site too, if not for my band. It was an eye opener!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
