First fill Tuesday 9/27

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I am getting my first fill Tuesday morning!! I am about two and a half months post surgery and have been doing well up to three weeks ago. Started eating "regular" sized meals, not over eating or eating what I used to...but I have felt guilty after consuming more than 1000 calories a day and I am at 1300-1500 calories a day. I am ready for a fill to have the restriction I need and want but scared of the process..how does it feel and what should I do afterwards to make sure I don't get sick?? Thanks for the help!!

I'm in the same boat as you and am very interested to see the replies on this thread. I get filled for the first time Thursday. I too am eating full meals and feel VERY guilty about it! I'm not losing ANY weight (Not gaining, but not losing), and I honestly feel like I did this all for nothing!

I'm at the same place as the both of you. I was banded 8/22 and get my first fill next Tuesday, 10/4. I too can eat anything and although I can by no means eat the size portions I use too, I can eat more than a cup. I am sticking to my calories but there are days I go above 1100 and feel so guilty. I haven't lost a single ounce since my first two weeks and am praying the weight will start coming off after my fill. So I too am interested in the replies.

If your doctor does fills like mine, it doesn't hurt, beyond a couple of lidocaine shots to numb the area. The doctor inserts a shunt to your port. Then he/she takes out all your saline to double-check how much is there, if any, then replaces it and adds a bit more. My doctor has me sip a cup of Water and adds saline until I can't swallow any, then backs off a bit so I can. The process takes just a few minutes. Then you do liquids for 2 days, mushies for 2 and regular food after that. I've gotten 3 fills and they've gone off without problems. Good luck to you all!

I was banded 8/19, and had my first fil last friday 9/24. I had 1.6 cc put in, i had no numbing medicine, so basically was just one pock and that was it, my doctor does the fills with flouroscopy, so you can actually see it for your self how fast or slow the liquid is going in. Its actually pretty cool. The whole process didn't take more then 10 min.

Thanks for the details!! I go in the morning so I will keep you updated on how my doc will do it. From what I know so far, it's under fluroscopy as well and I think I get numbed. Lets hope it goes well....Thanks again!!

Newbie- I can tell you this, it wasn't for nothing!! You've lost a considerable amount of weight so far and the fills are here to help us out because we can't do it on our own. Utilize all of the aspects of this surgery to better yourself day by day. If you get down it'll be harder to stay on track. I have been like that for a couple weeks now because I don't want to go to the gym. I feel like I am holding myself back, but if I was able to do so before hand then I probably wouldn't have had the surgery in the first place!!! With that said, good luck and I will keep you updated!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
