Diarreha after the band

Recommended Posts

Today i am 4 days post op and the diarreha continues. It started on day 1 and i assumed it was from barium swollow. I talked to the nurse who said it could last a couple days. I still have it. Its not improving. At all. She said only to call if i go more than 5 times per day or i have to run to the bathroom to make it. Thats not happening. So its not getting worse, but its not getting better either which has me worried. I get it, liquids in liquids out but i talked to 3 bandsters i know and none of them had it like this. Is this normal?

Mine didn't start until the 2nd day after surgery, but it has definitely been here ever since. It got so bad that I actually took my pain meds hoping for a little constipation! I plan on calling my doc in the morning to see if I can take some immodium or something. All the paperwork gave suggestions on handling Constipation but nothing about diarrhea!

This goes hand in hand with the liquid diet. Each time I get a fill and go back on liquids it happens again. I asked my doc if I would have a BM if I am only consuming liquids and he said yes because there it a lot of bacteria in the gut, it won't be pretty but yes you will. It should improve as you transition to foods.

The binder I was given by my doctor's office addressed this. I was told to have on hand Milk of Magnesia for Constipation and Pepto Bismol for diarrhea. I am sure if you talk to your doctor's office tomorrow they will tell you what they want you to take. I used the milk of magnesia 4 days after surgery and considered taking the Pepto today, but it the looseness stopped on its on this afternoon.

It's the Protein shakes. It gets better. Try "milk free" or "lactose free" options. I found that Worldwide Pure Protein Shakes worked best for me.

Remember, every time you poop, you're losing weight. :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
