Donnie 2.0 3 Posted September 25, 2011 This is my first day here on lapbandtalk. My surgery was on Sept 20th, 5 days ago. The only nagging problem I am having is that my voice is hoarse! I've only had it for a few days now. It wasn't present at the hospital (either right post-op afternoon/evening, or the second day before I left the hospital and went home). I've read on another posting that it's certainly a possible result of the intubation (my throat was very sore post-op, and I complained that it hurt me as much as my abdomen did then!) And this condition could take up to 30 days to clear itself. Anyone else have very hoarse voice issues, how long did it last, did you need to do anything different or take any meds? Thank you

Thank you What you are experiencing is common. I had the same thing, plus I felt like my lymph nodes were bruised. If you have ever seen an intubation (kinda gross) that is where they grip your head to get the tube in. Plus, they nicked my epiglottis a bit so I ended up having a white thing there for a few days while it healed. Definitely keep using your spriometer (or whatever breathing exercises) and you will slowly get better! Congrats on the banding!!!
Corrigan 75 Posted September 25, 2011 I had exactly the same thing for almost a week. It was the worst part of my banding. it was the intubation as the previous poster said. If it really bothers you, a little Lortab will fix you right up : > ).

bobrocky 8 Posted September 26, 2011 Same here. I had a hoarse voice after both my surgeries. Made me sound sort of feeble, but it got better after a few days.
Donnie 2.0 3 Posted October 9, 2011 Hoarseness is gone, lasted about a week. My wife kinda overreacted, making me more nervous than I should have been.
