Gall bladder postop vs lapband post

Recommended Posts

I had my gallbladder removed 4 yrs ago laproscopic and postop was painful the first week and hard to get up and out of bed, so I wanted to know is this the same type of pain I will experience once I had the lapband surgery, it took me about 6 weeks to feel totally back to normal

for me my gallbladder recovery was alot harder than the lapband recovery. i was not up and moving around after the gallbladder like i was with the lapband, which was the next day. i was not feeling good for 5 days after my gallbladder.

I got my lapband on 9/15, so this is still pretty fresh for me. My gallbladder has been gone for about 4 and half years. For me the surgeries were about the same. I still had the horrible time trying to get out of bed, and the pain was pretty comparable, maybe a little less with the lap band. After gallbladder surgery I had this weird feeling, almost like I could feel a "hole" where my gallbladder was - but did not have that feeling after the lap band. I went back to work after gallbladder surgery in 12 days - and back to work after 6 with lap band. I had a really hard time at work last week - but I did make it. I felt great this past weekend, and feeling a little bloated today. That being said - I'd get the lapband again tomorrow, as it's my last hope to be able to keep the weight off once I get it off!

I think it depends on age and health too. My gall bladder was removed at 19. 15 years ago and to me the lapband was worse due to the gas and internal soreness. My gallbladder and gall stones were out and I was up and hanging out 3 days later. Lapband took me 5 days to feel normal.

I agree with you all, your body has a way of telling you things. With my gallbladder it was very hard and my husband wasn't sure I would do alright with the lapband. It was was a much easier surgery then gallbladder. I started walking in about 3 days.

I am thankful for everyday that I had this done.

Thanks everyone for your response, hopefully the recovery will be a piece of cake compared to lap band surgery

I had my gallbladder removed last Friday 09/23/2011 -- i was up and moving the sameday (i have a 18 month old) just a little sore (like i did a lot of sit ups). I went back to work Tuesday 09/27/2011; i feel great!

if Lapband surgery is easier than gallbladder surgery, then it should be a piece of cake!

I am glad to see you say it took you about 4 weeks to feel normal! I am 2.5 weeks out and I still have pain where my port is! I read about so many people that are walking miles a few days after surgery and it still hurts sometimes going over a speed bump in the car. It is REALLY encouraging to hear you say that about your own healing.

I had my gallbladder out 3 years ago and I think the getting in and out of bed pain was the same but I think the lap band was easier sooner EXCEPT for the port spot pain. I am still having pain where the port was and I was banded 2.5 weeks ago. Good luck!

SD, I am having some pain where the port is also. Not bad but it is there. I won't do my first fill until the 13th, so wait and see how that goes. I feel really good and not hungry. I have been walking and that seems to help with the gas.

I hope you get some relieve soon.

Good Luck to you

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
