Greetings Everyone:

Was banded on Aug 15. Lost a total of 30 in two weeks. After two weeks was turned back on all types of food from Mr Physican. Since then I have had no restriction and I am pretty much hungry most of the time. Was worried that this did not work and it is not a tool. Been convionved by everyone that it is the healing time. I havent gained any of the weight back that I lost maybe a pound or two but nothing earth shatttering. I am scheduled for my first fill The second week in October. My Dr states that my band has no Fluid in it during the healing time. I guess what I am looking for is a nod that this is normal. I know a small percentage does have restriction and I thought I did after my first week but it was jsut the swelling. Im sure I could wea tthe same amounts prior banding as I could today, I just dont.

Will this improve after the first fill ? Im afraid my pouch is going to stretch but I guess with no restriction I dont have a pounch yet. Just looking for some support. Its been a bad weekl. Thank You

You are not the only one worried about that. I have been HUNGRY for most of the past 2 weeks since getting back on solid foods. The Dr. told me that I will gain weight back before my first fill in 9 days. My goal is to prove him wrong, I only eat every 3 to 5 hours. No snacking, and I am only eating whole foods. To me that means only eating food as it was grown or killed. No processed foods of any type. So far my clothes feel like they are getting bigger. I do NOT keep a scale in the house, that way I don't obsess every day over my weight. Just eat good foods before you get your fill and you'll be fine.

You are doing just fine. It is time for healing. It is known as bandster hell, the time inbetween surgery and when the fills finally give you restriction. It took me 3 fills to feel any restriciton. That seems to be a pretty common number on this board. Hang in there and know restriction will come.

After about the 2nd week my swelling had gone down and I felt like the honeymoon was over. They did warn me that this time before my first fill I would likely be hungry alot and they were not lying. That first fill made all the difference so take it very slow afterward. After about 4 months I was again feeling like I could eat too much and was not staying full for a long time. Got another fill and back to the green zone for me. It will get better, my sister just got her first fill and she was going through the same feelings. Best of luck to you!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
