Hi all! My name is Angie and I'm from Wataga, IL.

I have my surgery scheduled for Oct 6 two days after my 39 birthday! Best birthday present ever! :D

I started this journey several years ago and got scared off then after seeing my friend go thru it and have such a success I decided it was time! I called the same day as the inital information seminar, got approval within a week and have attended my support group meetings, done my psych eval (dh was surprised I passed :o ).

Now I'm on day 2 of my pre-op diet. It's not as bad as I thought it would be...I guess cause I know the payoff is so well worth it!

I have told my son who will be 13 in January, friends and family, did not tell my boss as he is not the nicest person.

I want to be healthier for myself but also my son and husband. I don't want our son to make the same mistakes we have. So I figure I have some years left before he leaves the nest to enforce good habits!

Thanks for sharing. this is such fun. it's hard to talk alot to people who don't know how it feels to be overweight. I have told some people too (the ones I trust for support). I remember a friend who had the roux n y years ago and she did not tell any of us. when she came back to work people kept questioning her constantly. I remember how uncomfortable she was with explaining, I am going to ease into letting people know that things are changing. I don't want lots of extra attention.

I am happy that my doc told me to lose weight b4 the surgery, I didn't expect to lose more than the 10lbs. he asked for. it's been a great start and people are starting to see that I am working on my weight now - b4 the surgery1

I agree it's a good thing to start trying to lose before surgery so people aren't questioning everything we are doing.

My friend that had it done 3 years ago is still very select in the people she has told. But that's okay cause she is doing GREAT! I hope to follow in her footsteps.

Today was very rough because of stress at work and the pre-op diet but thankfully my husband was home to help me deal, I honestly was ready to throw in the towel. :( But am now back in the right mental attitude!B)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
