Recommended Posts

HI Everyone,

I was banded on september 16 and now when I drink my protien drinks or eat Jello I can feel it going down, stop and then finishing going down. However when I drink Water, tea or anything else I feel nothing Is this normal? Also with having the band how can you tell your are "full" since it is all liquid. I tend not to drink very much lately because I don't know what that feeling I'm looking for is and I don't have much of a desire to consume ANYTHING. Any advise or knowledege would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there!

I was banded (with plication) on July 27th and most of the time when I drink something I can feel it going down, this is especially true with cold beverages. As far as feeling full, I would have these crampy, spasm type pains; that would be my clue to stop drinking/eating. My daughter had the same surgery as I did and she felt the same type of discomfort too. We figured it had to do with the plication, so with getting just the band perhaps you wouldn't feel that? My sister just had lapband this past Monday and she has not mentioned feeling that way. Once healed that feeling went away, but I can still feel liquids going down.

Good luck!

Scuffy

Hi I was Banded on Sept 12th and I am like you I can feel it when I eat sugar free pudding or Jello. I also went to Target and bought me these 3oz plastic Solo cups they are like the ones you use in the bathroom for a small drink. Since I use them it helps me know how much Fluid I am putting in my body so that I do not over do it and get to full. I even use it for the Jello or the cream of wheat. I have not once been sick or nauseated. I also just went to the doctor for my ten day check up and I lost 10 pounds and have already lowered my blood pressure. I also wanted to tell you about this Protein Drink I bought it is called Pro 5 and it is the best tasting Protein drink I have ever had it also mixes very well with a shaker cup with a cold bottle of Water and there are no clumps. So this is perfect if you are working. I mix it with 6oz of Water then I have gotten in 34 grams of Protein. You will have to look it up online and find out who distributes it in your area.

I feel everything go down. You feel it especially in the beginning while you're still swollen. And then when you have restriction you feel stuff pass trough your band. I would say with you being only a week post op, you should not worry about the full feeling and just try to get as much fluids in as possible. I know how you feel. I didn't want to eat or drink anything either for a while after surgery. Just try to sip on something all day. My doctor wants us drinking as close to 2 gallons oddities a day. Obviously I didn't come anywhere close to that after surgery... But it made me push myself to drink something even if I didn't want to. Also, sugar free Popsicles are a great way to get in fluids when you don't feel like drinking.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
