I am sorry everyone but I am so new to this. First of all, my name is Bill and I am 56 years old. Like everyone on here I am 237 lbs. I know its not a lot but it is in my way. My legs and hip always hurt. I have been a big man for a long time and it is time to do something. I have tried evrything out there and nothing helps. I have no support. from my family. Maybe that is why I eat tomuch.

Now for what I would like to find out. What do you mean by getting a FILL. If someone out there could please let me know. Thanks. How do I find a Doc. that will do the Lap Band for me. Thanks

The lap band is a device that is secured around the upper portion of the stomach to create a smaller stomach pouch. The band can be tightened by inserting saline through a port that is attached to your abdominal wall. This will allow you to eat small portions and be satisfied for several hours without a hungry feeling. As you lose weight, the band will need to be tightened. You can find out more details at www.lapband.com. You will be able to find a doctor at that site or you can find one on this site by clicking on the surgeons tab in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Most lapband doctors require a referral from your PCP.

A fill is the process of add saline to the band so that it tightens around your stomach and makes you feel full on smaller portions. Fills are done by injecting saline into the port - quite painless, quick and easy process.

In terms of finding a surgeon, start by talking with your GP and ask for a referral.

If you're expecting insurance to pay for it, make sure you choose a surgeon approved by the company. My insurance insisted on a Center of Excellence. There are many of them around the country. Good luck!
