Do you know if it's necessary to wear the CPAP machine in order to have the Lap Band? No one has mentioned it yet, but I brought it to my Dr's attn that I have a mild case of sleep Apnea, and he wanted me to check if I needed it. I really don't want to get one I don't feel I'm going to use it. Any thoughts on this?

If you have sleep apnea I would suggest you use a cpap. It is not worth the risk of a stroke in my opinion. I was told to bring my cpap for use after surgery during recovery. During surgery you will have other things stuck up your nose. :)

My hospital asked me to bring mine, but you'ld need to ask yours if they need the machine or just your mask, which you can get on ebay for not too much.

Medical supply places sell the machines for 1200 to $1500, but you can find the same ones online for about half that, if you ever need one. Weight loss

will help or even cure sleep apnea, but it takes time. Good luck.

I went in the hospital once in an emergency so I did not have my CPAP with me, of course. The hospital provded me with one during my stay. I had to tell them what my pressure setting was and that was it.

Has anyone ever had surgery without it? I only found out I had a mild case of sleep Apnea but no one ever called to say I needed to have the mask or machine for surgery they called me for the prescription but, my phone broke and they never called back. The Dr didnt really say I had to have it to have the surgery done.

My pulmonologist would not approve my surgery until I had a CPAP prescription and used it for a couple weeks. I was told by the sleep Center doctor that you may need it to make sure you can wake up from surgery fully and are able to be released from the hospital quickly.

BTW. I hate it. But I will do anything I have to for the surgery.

I don't know if you'll need to have it to get the surgery, but I have to say: I resisted getting a CPAP for years. Now that I have it, I LOVE LOVE LOVE how much better I feel from using it. I had to get it when I was pregnant and it took a while to get used to it, but now I'd never sleep without it.

I have mild sleep apnea. My doc requested that I bring my CPAP machine with me to the surgery center in case it was needed (in case I was slow to awaken from anesthesia, etc). I didn't need it at all. It is a good idea though to show the person that will stay with you how to work it, as everyone reacts differently to the pain meds. I struggled for the first month after getting my cpap machine. I ripped it off in the middle of the night every night for an entire month. Of course, I never remembered any of it. Then one night it stayed on. And I wouldn't sleep without it :)

Thanks for the responses everyone. The Dr said I don't have to wear it if I don't have it. They're going to keep me in observation over night though.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
