Its funny.....I was banded 2 months ago and the one thing I craved was having a slice of pizza. The other night my hubby got takeout for himself and I got a thin slice of regular pizza. I ate it slow and chewed well and it was fine. I really enjoyed having it and I don't think it was so bad of a choice for dinner. Once and a while we need a treat. CAT

I'm scheduled to have pizza tomorrow night! My band is at 4.25, and I can still eat anything. Even bread, Pasta, chicken...all the stuff I see on this site that people get stuck on. My dr. is soooo slow in fills. I am losing cause of all the Protein I take in daily (80 grams), and good ol' calorie counting! I'm really glad I learned the value of protein in all this (keeps the hunger feeling away), but can hardly wait to really have the help of the band to help me eat smaller portions and feel more satisfied!

How do you eat 80 grams of Protein and stay within your calories? Would love some hints.

How do you eat 80 grams of Protein and stay within your calories? Would love some hints.

Premier Protein Drink is 30 grams (I get it at Costco)--I have one of those a day, and I eat a lot of fish, eggs, and even low fat or non fat cheese. I make up this yummy egg dish with low fat and non fat cheeses and egg beaters and liquid "can't believe it's not butter". It is 147-155 calories per piece and 18-21 grams Protein (depending on the cheese you buy that are low fat and non fat). I freeze the individual portions and defrost one as I want it. I am staying under 1100 calories a day (usually it's under 1000), and still get in the 80 grams protein. For Snacks, a cup of fruit is only 50 calories!

Chili Cheese Puff (Skinnied Down)

(147 calories; 18 grams protein per piece)

2 ½ C egg beaters½ C flour1 tsp baking powder1 tsp salt1 pt. non-fat cottage cheese8 oz low fat grated cheese8 oz non-fat grated cheese½ C liquid “Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter”7 oz. diced mild chili’s Preheat oven to 350 degrees. “Pam” 9x13 pan. Combine all ingredients (except the diced chili’s) in large mixing bowl. Once mixed, add the chili’s.Pour into the sprayed pan, and heat at 350 for 45-60 minutes, or until the top is a nice toasty brown. When cut into 12 pieces, each piece is 18-21 grams protein and 147-155 calories.

One of my favorite things to have is Jennie o ground turkey 93/7 wrapped in a lettuce wrap with black Beans and salsa! Delicious! 285 calories and 32 grams of Protein. That's for 4 oz of turkey , 1/2 cup black beans and 6 tablespoons of salsa. I get about 3 lettuce wraps out of that

Another great thing that I allow myself to have sometimes is the burrito bowl with no rice from chipotle. It's 460 calories and 50 grams of Protein. I literally eat on it all day. I could never eat a whole one in one sitting but sometimes 1 bowl is the only thing I will eat for the whole day. I love it. That calculation is for chicken, faj veggies, pico, cheese, black Beans, and a tiny splash of sour cream

Today I had my first slice of pizza since surgery (August 31, 2011). It tasted wonderful! I just took very small bites and went down fine. I ate less than half of the whole slice and then just picked off the cheese from the rest of the slice. My band has 4.5 mLs. I don't feel like I have much restriction.

Wow! That is fantastic! Thanks for the suggestion!

I do the same thing, that way you control the toppings and is it sensational. My sister also tried it and her son loved making his own pizza two.

I eat pizza occasionally. I find if I stick to the thin crust and chew well I don't have a problem with it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
