Why is exercise so important after lap band....We are eating so little, have so much Protein yet when we dont exercise we put on weight..

Earlier we were having full meals and our weight was constant mostly....

Its really not logical....its so depressing when you eat lots of protein....but have an extra biscuit or two and ur weight goes up....

I've read it here often that the lapband is one leg of a three-legged stool. The other two legs are diet and exercise. We need to keep them all in balance in order to achieve success and stay balanced ourselves.

I've been surprised to discover how much I am enjoying exercise as my weight comes down. It was really hard getting started when I was heavier, but now I find myself rolling out of bed before the alarm goes off so I can have a few extra minutes on my morning walk. And checking the weather forecast on weekends and days off to see if I can get in a bike ride. I'll never be an athlete as such, I'll never win a race etc, but I am exercising at last.

Yesterday I heard a speaker (business, but it resonated with me) who said: "You can have excuses or you can have results but you can't have both."

Good luck with your journey.

Preach!!! I don't get it either. Saw my dr yesterday and he told me 1-2lbs a week. No healing period, nada. He said that if in 2 weeks I'm not losing then to come see him. I have my first fill on 09/27. I'm not hungry just want too see how I do with a fill.

I've eaten on my dr diet. Less than 1000 calories a day. Working out this week.

It for sure defies any logic. I have a friend on optimist. 800 cal a day and losing weight fast.

You can lose weight with the lapband and without exercising.

I know because I did it. I dropped my 100 lbs in my first year without doing any exercise at all. But here's the bad part, it will only get you so far. I could tell that my weight loss was slowing and if I didn't do something more I was going to remain at 250 lbs. I started going to the gym and I kept losing.

I think it really depends what you want to accomplish. When you don't eat much, you lose pounds...for a while. Then it stops. That's because without any activity, your body can run on next to nothing. Then the exercise becomes really important. Honestly, I kind of like it now. I love the fact that I can work out for an hour and not need a whole day to recuperate. Exercise when you're morbidly obese is hell. As you lose weight, everything becomes much easier.

I had five fills before the weight started "falling" off. I started hitting the gym 4-5 days a week (I LOVE ZUMBA, btw) and lost 20lbs in 2 months eating 1400 calories a day. I don't feel deprived and I am building muscles I didn't know existed. Next goal is to get rid of the underarm bat wings! My weight loss has slowed a little but I am still averaging 6-8lbs a month, so I am not complaining. The band is a tool, and like most tools, it cannot do the work alone!

Good luck, everyone!

I was banded 03/07 I've lost 46 lbs so far..well As of two weeks ago I wasn't really working out, why work out when the weight was coming off?dry.gif I was averaging 1.5lbs per week. Well I started a 60 day walk challenge Sep 1st (see Fitness and exercise) becuase I was dealing with a 2 week plateau in August. The scale was not moving below 236 lbs. Even though I started the challenge, for the 1st two week in Sep I did not work out (I blamed it on my period lol). Well last week I made a commitment to working out for 5 days straight heck if I stated this challenge it would be really messed up if I did not complete it. I weighed in this morning at 230lbs which means I lost 6lbs in 6 days. If I wasn't walking 4 miles every morning I believe that the scale would have said 235-234lbs. What I'm trying to say is, you don't have to work out to see results, but you do have to work out to be a healthier you. It really just depends on what you goals are. Do you want to just lose weight or do you want to be a healthier you. And with exercise comes better results so don't just settle for 1.5lbs when you can "Earn" more. Just my opinion. Good Luck ;)

Jesus now I'm really depressed! Lol! My body is stubborn. I don't know y. It adapts quickly. I like working out. It mentally makes me feel better and I have more energy. I'm just trying to understand y some people can lose and do nothing while I have to kill myself in the gym and practically starve. This morning I am tired and weak again. I'm so depressed and thinking I made a mistake with the lapband.

Keep with it, the more you work out the better you'll feel. I know I've tried taking days off (not my normal off day on Tuesday) and the rest of the day I just feel so out of sorts and sluggish. I workout in the mornings, since I work 3 swing shifts a week, and one morning (that's the day I take off). So it helps get my day going.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
