Y aren't I hungry?

Recommended Posts

OK here I go ! I had no pre-op diet so no fast weight loss. I am one week out of surgery and am not hungry. I have so many questions to ask my MD on my first visit. Would like to get one answer here now though if possible. They all say that the band has no fill at surgery so what is making me not hungry? I don't think I will have much in the line of weight loss because even thou I'm getting in the Protein I'm only getting a total of maybe 580-700 calories a day. I do know that your body will not lose if it thinks your starving. Does anyone have some good examples of what they have lost if anything because I also know some have gained? Am I not hungry because it is all in my head and because I had the surgery I'm having a placebo effect? I hope not because that won't last till my first fill in a month.

you are still very swollen, and there most likely a little bit of Fluid in the band but won't know until you go in for your first fill. it was about 2 weeks before i was actually "hungry" for food. keep drinking your Protein Shakes, try getting in the calories, the first few weeks are not about losing, but about healing. you are doing fine. it does get better. before you know it you will be hungry.

that makes me feel better too. I had my surgery one week ago today. I'm down 8lbs since surgery, not hungry at all. I am having trouble getting in all my Water though. Seems like I am sipping all day on water, but still really thirsty. I only get about 1 1/2 bottles of water down aday. Is that about normal?

I'm in week 5 and haven't been very hungry or experiencing Baners Hell. Seems to me the stomach is still a lot smaller and that might be why. I can tell it's smaller when I eat.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
