Does the Lapband Help Your Teeth?

Ok, this sounds a bit crazy, but I went to the dentist this week and she was checking my gum health, you know when they assign a number for each tooth. Well, last time I had like 18 "4"s and this time I just had 4 "4"s. She said, "your whole mouth looks so much better in just 6 months. What have you been doing?"

Well, I had been on my pre-op for 6 months and had changed my diet, stopped all sodas, sugar, sweets and started the high Protein diet. And I stopped all my meds about 7 weeks ago. She really thought the lap band diet had improved my teeth incredibly.

Anyone else have this happen. I guess this is a NSV of sorts.

Please tell me what NSV stands for. I see ppl put it on here all the time but I never know what the heck it means..

Non scale victory. A good that happens from the lap band besides just losing pounds.

NSV = Non scale Victory and Bob I think you answered your own question. "changed my diet, stopped all sodas, sugar, sweets and started the high Protein diet" = all great things for the teeth. Congrats on your NSV and good look to you with the band!

A healthier diet can improve your pocket readings, but Rx meds cause all sorts of problems with the tissues in your mouth as well. If you are taking vits. you could see improvement too. I'm glad to hear your gums are better this time.

Yes Humming Bird. . I was sure happy. I do feel a lot better and don't miss the sweets or bad foods from before.

I have noticed my teeth don't hurt like they used to, and my gums don't swell once a month. guessing it is because I no longer have the crap I used to eat anymore.

Bob, I'm so glad you posted this! I have always had terrible teeth, and I'm used to going to my 6-monthly dentist appointments and getting told that I need 5 or so fillings... I went to my most recent appointment last weekend and didn't need ANY. I hadn't thought about it being related to the lapband, but I bet you're right - I'm eating much less sugary junk and no more acidy sodas! Yay!
