Mine is on the left also, right under the largest incision. It is still sore, especially when I bend over at the waist. I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op

It must be surgeon's preference. From what I've read here, I'm the only one who has the port on the left side.

I haven't gained any but I am at a dead stop...... I have been at 193 for a couple weeks now. I am being really good with my eating too and recording it on myfitnesspal every time I eat but still the scale has stopped. I get my first fill on Oct. 25th and I hope that makes a difference but I am still not eating big quantities regardless. I eat about 1/2 C of food each meal and 2-3 Snacks a day, usually yogurt or string cheese. I don't know but it seems to be fairly common at this point. I am just tired of 193 staring me in the face. Yesterday it was 193.0 and I was so mad I hadn't lost .02 because then I could have seem 192, lol. Eventually.

I know I'm eating way to much, so I won't step on the scale either. I learned a long time ago, that the scale is not my friend. If it says I've gained weight, well I figure wth, I might as well eat something, so I do. If it shows that I have lost, I think I can reward myself. Either way - the scale is bad. I weigh when I go to the dr. once a month, and that's just going to have to be enough! Maybe when I get more used to this, and start feeling restriction I'll change - but I seem to be able to eat as much of whatever I want at this point in time. My first fill is 10/27, but I want it NOW!!!

I've been experiencing some port area pain like other folks. My port is on my right-front side slightly below where the band of my bra stops but my incision is lower a few inches above my belly button. I had a little scare the other day b/c I noticed that my port incision was a dark pink and there was a colorless whelp shape around the incision. I called my surgeons office and they had me come in the next morning to check it out. Nurse said it's not infected but to keep an eye on it. Has anyone experience a whelp or hive shaped area around their port incision?

I had some rashy type bumps and when I went in for my 2 week post op appt they said it was just irritation to the dermabond. Not sure if you have the dermabond on yours but that was the only random thing I had on mine.

For those of you that aren't changing your eating habits, what are and were your expectations from lapband surgery? For myself I look at this at the chance to lose weight and keep it off once and for all, so I am willing to go through whatever it takes to make it happen. I expect the band to be a tool to help me in the long haul of this journey but do not expect it to do all the work. I am learning to eat healthier and am beginning to enjoy it. I think it just takes some time to adjust to eating healthier. I am not making judgements, please do not think that. I am just curious if you thought the band would do all or most of the work?

I did not think the band would do everything for me, and I did not expect to wake up from surgery thin. I did think it would make me less hungry, and would cause pain when I ate the wrong foods. I've been successful at not gaining - but I have been starving, and it has been hard. Only once have I felt "full" - and that was while I was still on full liquids. Other than that, I go to bed hungry, wake up hungry, and no matter what I eat in between, the only thing that changes is the degree of hunger that I feel. I'm eating the wrong things, and am eating too much, and I absolutely admit it. It's not the band's fault, it's mine. Right now, the only way I know I even have a band is when I feel pain in the port area, so I'm not getting any "help" from it right now at all.

I'm still hopeful that the band will make it easier some day, and I hope it's sooner rather than later. I know I have the 14cc band, and I have not had my first fill yet, so there is a lot of room in there to "shrink" the stoma and give me the "help" I'm looking for. I'm hoping that I get to the "sweet spot" soon, but I am in this for the long haul and don't intend to give up. If it takes a year to get there, then I'm still ahead of the game as long as I don't let myself gain.

Is there anyone out there that thought the band would do everything? I think it is just difficult when you don't have any restriction in the band yet or very little restriction. I am lucky that I am not hungry very often but I know it isn't because the band but because I got used to eating smaller portions all together from the pre-op diet on. I am at a total stall, the scale hasn't moved in almost 2 weeks but I just keep on plugging along, sticking to the diet, but so far the band isn't helping out till I get a fill. Like Pugs, I also have the 14cc band and my surgeon said it may take a little longer to get to that sweet spot. Bromo do you think it may be a little easier for you since you had the plication as well as the band?

I really did not mean to offend anyone. I was just curious. Different things work for different people and I am always open to hearing opinions other than my own. I hope that I did not offend anyone, as that truly was not my purpose in that post and if I did I apologize.

Dawn, yes, I think the plication probably has a lot to do with my not having much hunger between meals and feeling sated on a cup or less of food. Although since I that is the only experience I have, I base that off other's posts. But I still struggle in learning how to eat right and not giving in to eating things I know that are not good for me right now. I would love to have a juicy hamburger or something else but I know in this stage of my journey it is important for me to not have that if I wish to learn good habits, get healthier and continue to lose weight. I guess what I am saying is I do not want to sabotage myself with what I have going on, but it is not easy even without the gnawing hunger. The head hunger is what got me to this weight in the first place, and my giving into it, so it is something I am still battling each day. I was just curious if some people who were not as fortunate as I was with the wealth of information I got from my surgeon were disappointed when they learned how hard it is in the beginning after getting the band. I was thinking that perhaps they were not informed of the "bandster hell" period and had hopes that more of the work would be done by the band. That is all I was thinking. Perhaps I could have worded it better.

No offense taken. I hear ya about not wanting to sabotage yourself, there are so many things that LOOK so good but it took months to get everything done to get to the surgery point that I am doing good not giving in. It is a hard learning process though for sure. I hope that people's surgeon, nutritionist, etc let them know how much work it is afterwards.

Hey I just wanted to pass my little finding on to you guys. I got my costco coupons and their sugar free calcium chews are $12.25 for 180 chews and a $3 off coupon so they were only $9.25. I thought that was a really good deal so I thought I would share :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
