Hi Guys,

I got my lap band on Sept 15 - I felt great up to now ... however last night I started feeling muscular type pains in my stomach (at the top center incision area) everytime I move - this may have been caused from me moving too quickly. I am wondering if anyone has felt similar type pains.

I got banded on the 19th. The only pain I have is around the area of the port. And like yours, my pain comes around when I make a sudden or fast move. I am not hungry, but I know I have to take in liquids. I'm still really light-headed, but with this having been my first medical procedure, I kind of expected that it would take me a while to recover.

I had my first "what-have-I-done" breakdown last night. I was just sitting on the sofa with my hubby and I started crying uncontrollably. It's wasn't at anything in particular. I guess the reality of everything hit me at that moment. I know it won't be my last breakdown and I just have to work through it.

Anyone else have a breakdown this early after surgery?

Wanna be, I did have the same thing. It does go away over time but yes try to be more careful about bending and moving to quickly. I had to take care of myself so I know that I over did it and I experienced the same thing. Ice does seem to help when I got the pain. Good luck :)

@ N.Estrada I think it's pretty safe to say we all go through a moment of "what have I done" and also that day 2 and 3 are the worst for everyone (at least that I have talked to) I remember by day 5 or 6 I was feeling sooooo much better and by day 8 I was almost back to normal. Move as much as you can (carefully) and as long as your trying to drink you'll be fine. Day 4 swelling starts to go down and it starts getting easier to swallow. Chin up hun. I'm 4 months out, down 60lbs, and extremely happy with my decision now.

I've felt the same thing but that was only because I was miscalculating my body movements. If you move slowly and perhaps brace the area with a soft pillow as you move, that could help. It did with me. I still feel discomfort and a bit of tenderness when I move but I'm 10 days out so far and feeling back to normal!

I've felt the emotional part of this, too. The day I was released from the hospital, I was talking to my boyfriend and in complete shambles asking how did I get to this point but I kept remembering as soon as I awoke from my surgery, I started to cry because I was so proud that I did it on my own. The results are in how I feel physically and that I can actually sustain a 10 lap walk better than I did a few days ago! I'm 10 days out and 27 lbs down!

Had my surgery at 8am and got home at 6pm. It went textbook perfect. Just a little pain from the port placement and the gas pain in my left shoulder, but I am well. The surgical team was fantastic!!! more later

Got banded 9/9 and have no problems. My port pinches a bit every once and a while but my doc says its healing....

I believe different pains come from gas build up. I have a couple band friends who complain about sharp pains like that but they do not last.

When in doubt , pain or fear its always a good idea to contact your surgeon

I have found the more i stay away from sugary drinks (like gatorade and juices ) the better i feel.

My Dr has me on liquids for 3 weeks which will be over Oct. 1st, which is my B-day! How is that for planning!

Hope to stay in contact with all sept. bandsters...

I was banded on Sept. 16. I am glad to say after day 2, I didn't have very much gas pain and I never experienced the pain in my shoulder. However on day 2 i was crying to my sister "what have I done". On one hand I was glad to be on this journey but on the other I was scared of what was to come. Now at day 5 I'm feeling a lot better both mentally and physically. I am so excited at the prospect of really being an active mom to my 3year old son and just finding out what life has to offer not being afraid to "live" instead of existing.

I wish I could burp. No problems with gas the other way. I have been trying to move alot in order to prevent gas problems. That was my biggest fear. Best of luck to all!

My emotional outbursts have subsided, but now I am starting to feel hunger. I have another week on liquids, but I am determined to not cheat or undermine myself. The easiest way for me to not think about the hunger is to get outside and find something to occupy myself. A walk in the park, a drive in the country, or reading a good book outside. If I stay inside, I will go stir crazy.

Wanna be,

I cheat. I'm keeping it real. I didn't know I was cheating but I did. I started with cream Soups. Was never hungry. Still on cream Soups.

So that is my secret. I'm sure others have the same secret.

Please don't cheat on my account. I'm just telling you about my issues.

Hi Everyone! I'm Jason and I'd like to join the group.

Here's the twist. I was banded in December 2009. Issue is that it was completely devoid of any saline and was never filled until 2 days ago. The surgeon believed waiting 6 months before the first fill and in that time I lost my job and also my insurance.

I'm thankful that I found a new job last summer and I love it, but it's a small company and the insurance covers NOTHING regarding the lap bands, not fills, not the doctor's visit, not even the cup of Water they give you when you walk out the door.

So, I'm finally filled. I have the "big" lap band (14cc's I think) and he put 5.5 cc's in there under a fluroscope. He said with that, I should feel very uncomfortable if I continue to eat like I've been.

2 nights before I went to a Sushi buffet and closed the place down. I've had ZERO restriction and could eat unlimited amounts of anything. Right now I'm on yogurt and pudding and tomorrow I can start with blended stuff. (or just scrambled eggs since there's NO WAY I'm blending food)

Sad thing is that the day of surgery I weiged 290. The post op, mostly liquid and no carb diet brought me down to 251 at my lowest in March 2010.

As of 2 days ago I was 319. That's a gain of 68 pounds since surgery. Needless to say, I'm ashamed. I've been able to save up over the last year and have found a new surgon who will take credit cards so I'm paying for follow up myself. This is motivator #2 or 3 for me.

So for all intents and purposes, it's like I was just banded but worse because I don't remember the protocol very well. I found a new surgeon. I finally have Fluid in my band, and I'm scared to death of what lies ahead. The new sugeon's support groups start up again in 3 weeks so this site is all I've got.

Please adopt me. :)

...and.... if anyone can tell me if oatmeal and or cream of wheat is a "heavy liquid" or a "mushie", that would be awesome.

If anyone has any threads that are favorites, please let me know those too.

I have to succeed. I'm 36 years old, fat, diabetic. have apnea and a 3 year old daughter I want to be around for.

Help....please.

Thanks

Jason

I'm scheduled for surgery in two days, Sept 26th. I have been on the pre-op diet for 11 days and have dropped 21lbs as of this morning. I often get dizzy and am starving. Does it get any easier after the banding? I've been on Protein shakes and Jello pudding, with a little broth mixed in for flavor. No cheating at all.

Hello everyone! I received my band on 9/19 and I feel great. I only have a little pain sometime at my navel because thats where my port is but other than that I'm fine. I haven't had excessive gas and I had no problem swallowing down liquids. I am starting to get a little hungry sometimes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
