Hey guys, how ya doing? I'm yet another newbie to crash the party, all in the name of research. I"m 26, Australian, weigh 142.5kg (about 314 pounds according to google) and as I slowly creep towards my 30's - my weight is growing faster!!

Lapband surgery has been suggested to me and I feel like I'm cheating by taking that route. By the blogs that I've read this seems like a common feeling. So I'm researching. I've been reading reading and reading. Hell, I've become a bit addicted to researching and have taken the day off so I can research more. Whoops.

I don't know whether to suck it up and pay for the surgery in full and just get it done now (well, as soon as I am able) or to get insurance, work on my weight for 12 months and create better habits and have the surgery when I qualify under insurance (and then all my follow ups are covered as well in my thinking). So yeah, still planning stage.

So that's me in a nutshell (not totally, I'm an onion really, with all the layers and such). I look forward to sharing your experiences and sharing mine in return. I've started a theraputic blog of my own if you guys wanna check out it's fromthecouchtothecatwalk.blogspot.com

Peace xx

Aussie Aussie Aussie oi oi oi! Yeah, I'm downunder too. I was banded in April this year and have lost 41kg (93lb). I started at 149kg. I have had health insurance (HBA) forever and was able to have my surgery very quickly. I was about $1,000 out of pocket in total. so far my journey has been pretty easy. I've followed the rules about eating, not drinking with eating, exercise etc. There are times when my head thinks I want to eat but my band has made it possible for me to stop at healthy portion sizes. I'm also tracking my calories and exercise on myfitnesspal.com which has helped me understand that I need to consciously decide what I am eating and how it will fit into my overall daily allowances. I still make poor choices from time to time but now I have a better understanding of the cost of those choices.

Good luck with whatever decision you make. Feel free to friend me on myfitnesspal.com if you want some support. User name is SageTracey.

cheers Tracey

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
