Tired of being Tired 0 Posted September 21, 2011 I went to a restaurant this weekend. The girl let me order off the kids menu but told me not to tell anyone because not everyone would do it. I didn't have the card on me or I would have showed it. I plan to just share my daughter's kids meal at restaurant since she eats like a bird anyways! 54Shirley 105 Posted September 21, 2011 Here's a tip ! Keep that card with you all the time, and invest in a Medical I.D. Bracelet or Necklace. If anything ever happened even fainted. Emergency would come to rescue, and shove a tube down for breathing. That would tear everything up. If they see I.D. Like the Lapband card they won't do it, but that's where the jewelry comes in handy. they see that read it, and will not put the tube in. Now with just the card,,, they could do it while someone else looks for ID, by the time they find it, the damage has been done. So please consider a piece of Jewelry, and keep that card with your License.
LVGirl 4 Posted September 21, 2011 I used my lap-band card for the first time over the weekend at a Sunday Brunch. I was able to pay the kid's price. I'm not a cheap person, but it's only right as I didn't even eat as much as I saw some of the kids eating. My hat off to the restaurant. Surely, it is their perogative to allow this. They absolutely did the right thing! You are fortunate that they take it! I have only found 2 restaurants in Vegas that will accept it.
DRCS 2 Posted September 21, 2011 Glad you mentioned the card. I have never heard of it and am going to the MD tomorrow and I will ask him then. Didn't get it with my initial packet or at the hospital nor did my MD mention it. IT was funny that I just read this because I was just mentioning the other day that I wish they gave you something to be able to get cheaper rates or allow you to order from the kids menu. Thanks again! I used my lap-band card for the first time over the weekend at a Sunday Brunch. I was able to pay the kid's price. A breathing tube would not "tear everything up." And really, if it was a matter of life and death, wouldn't you want them to "tear things up" to keep you alive? I would. That being said, I think an ID is not a bad idea. There are other tubes that go into the stomach and medical personnel would need to know about lap band or other bariatric procedures for those. xavier 153 Posted September 23, 2011 Not sure who told you that about the breathing tube but it is not correct. For one thing if you need the breathing tube (endotracheal intubation) you are about to die without it and the only alternative is a hole in your neck (tracheotomy). You dont get intubated for fainting as long as you are still breathing which you would usually be. That tube is for someone who is not breathing. Your trachea (for breathing) is not your esophagus (for food ) so the tracheal tube wiil not harm your band. Also your band is on your stomach which is way lower down than where the breathing tube would go. All that said, more medical info for anyone taking care of you is always good so the Bracelet or wallet card is probably all good. Here's a tip ! Miller.ted 3 Posted October 18, 2011 yea I have my card for emergencies but I would feel weird breaking it out in front of people. Mine was included in my pre op package and then the band info was given to me Post.
papoose 48 Posted October 18, 2011 I went on lapband.com, there is a 1-800 no on it and they ask you some questions. That's how I got mine. I tried to use it a couple of times, but they did not accept it. So I just order what I want and take a doggy bag. I like the idea of getting 2 or 3 meals out of 1 meal. The only time that they might shove a tube down your throat & into your stomach is if they are going to pump your stomach (WAY to intoxicated, poisoned, etc) Before they do that they automatically check their computer systems (almost all are interconnected in some sort of way) sharing your past medical history with the docs when they are treating you. And even if they don't see anything in the computer, they will call your personal MD to gather your medical information/
