Surgery went well. I was very nauseous upon waking up. I can handle the pain, but not being nauseated. However the nausea stopped after my drive home. I don't think I handle anestesia very well. Anyway, had to be to the center by 9, surgery was suppose to be at 10, didn't start until 10:30. Was on the road home by 2:30. Came home and slept. I have gotten up and walked a lot which helps. I am taking the pain meds and nausea pills. But overall, doing fine. I have tolerated popsicles and just barely had a 1/2 c. of homeade chicken broth. It was delish, but not at all hungry yet.

Hope all of you are well!

Hi,

Hope your surgery went well and you are feeling great. I have mine this Monday and I'm so excited but nervous all at the same time. I'm sure it will be great. I wanted to see if you have your Lap Band Owners Manual on the computer or only the hard copy. I am going to a wonderful doctor who has amazing references for the actually surgery but I'm so concerned about my eating after the surgery. I would love to see menus and shopping lists for each stage. I have done a lot of research but feel that this is the one area I'm lacking.

Thanks so Much!!

So I went to an Education Class that my doctor does once a week for pre-op patients and loved it. Talked about anything and everything that i had been wondering about. I was also given a 72 page Lap Band Patient Owners Manual. I got such a kick out of it. I felt like I was back in high school and had to cram for a test. It has shopping lists for what to buy for each food stage. Menus for a week for each food stage. A what to do if this happens. Phone numbers and emails for all the staff when the office is closed. It even has a section for whom ever is taking you to and from the hospital during surgery and what they should expect. Its an owners manual for a tool. Thats all Lap band is and this is a how to. LOVE IT. Cant wate till October 6th.

Hi,

I'm also having my surgery this coming Monday morning. Who is your dr? I'm having it done with Dr. Feilding. I'm a bit nervous but also very excited. How are you feeling now? It's so hard living in NYC and constantly passing restaurants and going out with friends and watching them eat amazing food when you are on the liquid diet. You say you weren't very strict...did you cheat quite often and how did the dr say your liver looked once he operated. I'm going out to dinner tonight with friends (I usually end up just eating a salad) but going to one of my favorite places and thinking of cheating a bit. What do you think? I won't have a drink but might have to have a few bites. Thoughts?

Looking forward to hearing from you and good luck on your continued success....

Hi Cindy! I am also a Brooklynite, so I was banded at NYU on 9/19. I was SO afraid before, and now all my fears seem so funny . No pain, no hassle, no gas, no nausea. Now after18 days, I feel as if I did not have anything at all. Just 1 inch pencil line on my belly.

Service there was so good ! . Probably it was some morphine they gave me, but I really did not want to go home.:D

I can't boast that I have lost a lot- only 11,5 lbs after surgery, and 29,5 total. But, honestly, was not even so strict with the diets ( pre-and post-op). I know - it's a sin, but could not stop experimenting.

SO GOOD LUCK TO YOU. I DON'T KNOW HOW THE WEIGHT WILL BE GOING DOWN, BUT SO FAR IT WAS SO EASY !!

Tell me about it!! I feel like there is so much to do before Monday and not enough time! Between making sure things are covered at my job and making sure things are covered at home..Im very stressed! We will get thru this!

Well, I went to pre-op today; my surgery is at 5:00 PM on Monday. I have the weekend, including Monday to get the rest of the house in order. I have to figure out the logistics of getting my daughter from daycare and all that but the time is flying by. As of yesterday I have lost another 8 pounds!

So tomorrow is the day and I'm so excited. The two week pre-op diet went great except one emotional meltdown day. Most of the 11lbs I lost didn't come until this week, so hang in there those that are just starting out. Drank Pure Protein - 34g of Protein and taste really good. I had to remind myself that with that amount of protein I wasn't feeling hungry it was the habit of eating I was feeling & missing.

Thank you all for the support, encouragement and honesty that this is not an easy process , but we're worth it. This group has been a great help over the last few weeks. I'll keep everyone posted on how it goes tomorrow and wish all of you success in the journey!!

I am happy to hear you have been banded. Still waiting for my approval. But I wanted to know where did you buy you Pure Protein. The only thing I have tried is Muscle Milk Likght and only the vanilla taste good to me, but I am picky like that.

Good Luck

Wow I just wanted to let everyone know that day 3-4 is a huge difference! I read that some other people felt back to normal, and wow I know what your talking about now. I woke up without pain, just feeling uncomfortable in my port area (my belly button) That is a first. Before I was waking up in the middle of the night with pain and having to take my meds to go back to sleep. I don't feel groggy or gassy today. YAY!

FYI- I have been starting to get hungry even with the shakes. I was told that a bite of applesauce or cottage cheese is acceptable. Who knew a bite would make such a difference!

Hope everyone is doing well!

I have settled on unjury. They have a sample pack of all there flavors. I ordered that along with lots of other brands. There vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry are the less gritty tasting in my mind. the worldaccordingtoeggface has shake recipe's and I have not been disappointed yet. Bariatriceating.com has premade flavored shake packets (carmel lattte, icecream sandwich, Peanut Butter cookie etc) . They are good, just to pricey in my opinion. Egg face has similar combination's with regular household ingredients and sugar free syrups.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
