What portions do you eat?

Recommended Posts

I've not told anyone about this surgery except my wife, and I think it's going to be really hard to continue to hide this if I can only eat four ounces forever. But I know if I were to eat more, I'd probably get nausea or throw, at least I think. Haven't had this issue yet.

I was using cups, and my doctor said not to use it that way. They said it's because you can have very heavy food that isn't good on your stomach. I guess a cup of Pasta weighs less then a cup of say steak. Or vice versus.

So they told me 4 ounces per meal. 2 of those ounces had to be a Protein at the least.

My doctor told me 3 oz for the Protein, and then 1 cup for the vegetables.....Not to weigh any of the food. Was told this should be able what I eat until I get down to maintenance and then it will go up some but not much.

My doctor says 1-1 1/2 cups of food per meal. The first 1/2 cup should be Protein, the second 1/2 cup veggies and if I'm still hungry I can have a 1/2 cup of carbs. He said the band measures volume and not weight so that's why he does cups.

My doctor doesn't talk in cups or ounces. He says make wise food choices, take a good Vitamin and stop eating when you feel satisfied. He has never told me how much too eat!

Is it just me or does anyone else think weighing and measuring is just one more dysfunctional food obsession that keeps us in that diet mentality?

i serve small portions to myself - a cup or under - and eat till I feel satisfied. I eat a lot of vegies though - I'd probably eat two cups of raw vegies spread throughout the day (mainly before meals) and then less than a cup worth of food for the meal. But I dont know exactly coz I dont measure. But its small enough that everyone that knows me but doesnt know I have a band (liek work colleagues) roll their eyes at what they consider the ridiculously small amount I eat.

I'm the same. I don't measure my food out... I just know to keep my portions under a cup and 1/2 of food per meal. I just eyeball it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
