Uh, well, hi everyone.

My name is Stephanie. I'm 29 and what I like to call chronically fat. I had myself a little breakdown on Monday when I went to do my Weight Watchers weigh in and for the gazillionth time, failed to lose weight even though I am following that damn program to a T. I have lost a total of 6 pounds since the beginning of June.

I'm newly married and really excited to have babies. At almost 270 pounds I know I'm not at the most optimal weight for a healthy pregnancy for myself or my (future) babies. I really want to be a healthy weight.

In the midst of my crying jag on Monday I made an appointment to see a bariatric surgeon and came home from that appointment a little while ago. I think that appointment was the first time that I actually got more than four minutes of face time with a doctor during an appointment. It was refreshing almost. Anyhow, I meet the BMI criteria as I was at 40.5 in their office today. He said I was an optimal candidate as I was young, ate a fairly healthy diet and was a regular exerciser. I have Cigna insurance so I have to go through the six months of supervised weight loss. He assured me that I could actually lose weight during this time and that I wouldn't be denied by the insurance if my BMI went below 40. I am very healthy besides being overweight and have no comorbidities.

I'm looking forward to the next six months. I hope everything goes well and that I'll be on my way to a healthier and lighter life.

Se you all around.

You should be able to use your time at w.w. as part of your 6 mths since it is supervised.

The doctor is going to check on that. He thought it had to be physician supervised, which I haven't been really. I went to the doctor twice in the three month time, but for surgical clearance and checkups for other things. If it did count though, that would be fabulous!

Ihad Cigna and they insist on a Dr. supervised program. You have to see your Dr. once a month for 6 months and you can't miss a month or you have to start over. It passes fast though. It's been a great experience so far.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
