Hi! Newbie starting at the very first rung on the lap band ladder

Hi everyone,

I'm Haley, 29 from Vermont (52 BMI). I've spent the last few weeks going on different message boards and web sites being a sponge and soaking in information. I've made different lists and started a "questions to ask" list because I'll probably be asked a lot from the different people I'll meet with "do you have any questions?" I can never think of anything on the spot so I'm preparing myself lol I meet with my PCP in 2 weeks and extremely nervous because she never gets my frustrations with my weight. If she doesn't want to refer me (needed for insurance) then I'd have to switch docs and I'd rather not. I've heard my hopefully soon to be surgeon makes you lose x amount of weight. I hope it's not a lot it took me 5 months to lose 10 lbs. I have a support system, my mom, daughter, a couple friends and my long distance boyfriend. I'm really nervous that I'm getting my hopes up only to not be able to do it for whatever reason and then I'm back to square one. You all seem like a happy and supportive group and I would love to join you all

Hi Haley, I'm only 4 days postop so take that into consideration. My surgery was so successful I had no pain, very little discomfort, I walked almost two miles two days

after surgery. The only reason I mention this is that I went to a American College of Surgeons Center of Excellence. If there is any way you can go to a COE, please

do it. You'll never regret it. Look around this forum and others, for patients who went to COEs, and see how they did. Whatever you choose, the best of luck to you.

I will echo what Corrigan has said. I am only 2 days post op and not quite ready to walk 2 miles like him, but have gotten the best possible care and all my questions answered at my Center of Excellence. They are comprehensive in their care and the quality of their care is superb. I am very happy with my care up until this point and know that I will continue to be pleased. Good luck to you.

Thanks! Actually I don't know if I have a choice in surgeons I've done a couple of searches and I've only found 1 in the area. I currently have state insurance and I don't know if they would cover an out of state surgeon. I've read really good things about the one in my area.

I hope you werent close to any of the devistation from Huricane Irene!

My brother lives in Vermont and he was lucky but has sent me alot of very sad pictures! I love that state visit it every Summer!

I am brand new to these board as well. I have started my journey and just went last week for my consultation with the surgeon. I don't need a referral Thand God...My PCP has actually told me to go for it a couple of times but it took me a coupld of years to agree. My BMI is 47.3. I have a date for surgery which is November 111th. I hope all goes well for you!

Thanks Debbie! I hope all goes well for you as well!! My area of vermont only got a lot of rain and winds but that day my daughter and i happened to be traveling from syracuse, ny so it was a very long trip because there was so much wind and rain and detours from flooded roads it sucked pretty much lol but we made it home safe and that's what matters
