Alli in StL 23 Posted September 14, 2011 So I went to the dr today. We talked about what I was experiencing, and he confirmed that it sounded like I was really swollen and the band was too tight. He took out all the Fluid, which was about 3cc, and I feel tons better! He said that it's a rare occurrence in his office to have a band too tight right out of surgery, but that's me.....an overachiever. It hurt so bad to have him press on my stomach to locate the port. So now my stomach feels like I just got out of surgery and is all swollen again! I'm excited to see how quickly I progress in my recovery now that I feel better on the inside. I finally get to start full liquids tomorrow and am hating my band a little less than I did yesterday. -Alli
elcee 3,341 Posted September 14, 2011 It is actually quite common for the band to be too tight if Fluid is inserted at the time of surgery. The fluid combined with postop swelling is for many people a really bad combination. There have been many people on this site that have posted wishing they had never been banded as they had just had surgery and couldn't eat/drink etc. When they went to their Drs many of them had had fluid inserted during surgery and this was the cause of their problems. Now that yours has been taken out hope you start feeling better . You can heal first and concentrate on getting fills and losing a little later. 1 Bertie reacted to this
BaileyRose 13 Posted September 15, 2011 I had 2 cc's pit in during surgery and had it taken out 2 days later... My doctor said only about 1% have post op swelling so bad that they can't drink... I guess I was just lucky! Haha I also have had other complications with the band but nothing major. I know it's all worth it. I'm down 43 lbs(need to update my ticker) and I've dropped 2 pants sizes in 6 weeks... I know because of the band I'll never see those 43 lbs again! It's all worth it and you just deal with it as it comes. I felt so much better after he took the Fluid out. You're definitely on the road to recovery! 1 Bertie reacted to this
