LaLa200 0 Posted September 16, 2011 This is all very helpful. I'm having surgery on Monday, October 3rd and have the week off. My work is making a big stink about getting a letter from my doctor saying when I can go back. They are putting me on a family medical leave - I was only originally planning on taking vacation time. Now I have all kinds of forms to fill out. Great!
Bertie 3 Posted September 19, 2011 I was banded on Friday Sept. 2--so took the long weekend off, Labor Day, and went back to work on Tuesday. I was glad to go back, My doctor said if I was off work, I shouldn't just lay around all day--and that's basically all I wanted to do. And, I couldn't stop thinking of food the first few days, so for me, it was nice to go back and keep busy at work.

Jess55 97 Posted September 19, 2011 I took off one week. I have a pretty physical job. I'm an LVT. Basically an animal nurse. So I'm on my feet 10 hour shifts walking lifting and everything. I had little pain post op. Took pain meds the first 2 days. Very little shoulder pain, only when I was sitting down and it wasn't terrible. I feel I could've gone back on day 5. I even dug my car out from under a foot of snow on day 7 to go back to work
Peps 1 Posted September 19, 2011 It is great to read about what to expect after surgery. I am scheduled for LapBand surgery Thursday, September 29 and hope to return to work Monday, October 3. So, I am going to stock up on Gas X and get up and walk as often as I can! Like LovelyT, I am beyond excited! Hi! I'm having surgery on the 29th also! I'm also planning to stay out of work until Tues. or Wed. of the next week (depends on how I feel). My life coach that I had to work with for a year said that she urges her patients to take a week off because it's a lot to get used to--diet, and feelings. I may end up doing that, too. Good luck next Thursday! Gosh, NEXT THURSDAY!!!! It's so close now. I'm very excited as I know you are. I'll be thinking about you then. Take care, and hope that all goes well for you. carolr 0 Posted September 19, 2011 I had my surgery on Tuesday. I could have returned to work today with no problem, but took the time off anyway. I lost 10 pounds in just 6 days! I didn't take any pain pills, but I have to say my shoulder hurt for 5 days (common complain). My nurse told me Gas-X does not work because it's not really gas pain, it's the nerves that are aggrevated from being blown up with air!! But, if some people got relief, it doesn't hurt to try. Best of luck to you. So far, I'm very, very pleased. . These posts are so helpful. I am not scheduled for surgery for another month, but have scheduled 2 days off + the weekend, 4 days total, but I work from home so I am hoping this will be okay. Having tips like Gas-X, & a hot Water bottle are fantastic. I have also read to make sure you get a nausea patch, liquid lidocaine (for pain), liquid tylenol, etc. Any other recommendations for post-op?
