Fianlly got surgury date....France (Dr. Frering)

Recommended Posts

Hi all :clock:

I've been around here for a while, so thank you all for your wisdom and support.

I will be going to France soon for my Mid-Band with Dr. Frering. So soon I will be a bandster too :)

Just a question, my Dr. said that he will need me to start the liquid diet one week before the surgury. Is that normal? or how long did you go on that diet for?

And he said, only yogurt, tea and coffe :help: :help: :help:

I mean nothing else to eat? and what about if I was to faint? I mean going from 7000 calories a day to almost non, sound unreasonable for me....any thoughts??

I was on a "liquid diet" for two weeks prior to my surgery. It's usually 3 weeks but I was a 'rush job'.

Anyway, I was told to have 60 grams of Protein shakes (whey Protein and slim fast shakes) and then all of the RAW veggies I wanted. I was told that if I got really hungry I could also have some carbs (they burn off fast) but to have small amounts of Pasta or brown rice. I did a bite or two of chicken and tuna in my salads when I was most hungry.

I lost 16 pounds in just over two weeks and my liver was in great shape for surgery.

All that said, you should do exactly what YOUR doctor told you to do. If you dont have faith in him for the pre-op stuff, how will you trust him for the after care. And.. how -are- you going to get after care when your doc's in France? Got something set up here? If so, you might check with them on this as well. Talk to a nutritionist they work with. If not.. you should!!

Best of luck to you!

Hi Magic,

My surgeon and dietitian also recommended a 7 day liquid diet. It's a high Protein, low carb diet designed to shrink the liver. They have to move the liver in order to reach the stomach. Without the diet, high glycogen stores in the liver make it stiff and more likely to tear during the lap band placement. I was told that above all else, everything must be sugar-free. Ask him if his office can email you the procedures and a sample diet/menu. You will also have a post-surgery diet to follow for about 4 to 5 weeks.

Good luck in France. Keep posting and let us know how things go with you.

Hi,

I've just come across your post regarding your lapband surgery in Lyon. I'm really interested in how you've got on as I am booked to have the surgery in May with Dr Frering.

Any info/advice would be gratefully received

Hi, I was on the same regime for my mid-band. I survived the one week yogurt diet and it certainly worked as my liver was fat free at surgery. It's important as they might abandon surgery if they find your liver too fatty.

You can have as many fat free yogurts as you like. I didn't touch yogurt for ages afterwards but like it again now!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
