But the eggs this morning didn’t taste right, keep asking others if the food is ok

It must be all in my head right there is no way the band could affect taste could it?

Same thing happened to me... I think it's from being on a liquid diet for so long. You'll adjust back :-)

I was on a liquid diet for three weeks after surgery. By the time I got back onto soft foods, everything tasted weird. I was a serious coffee drinker before surgery (I live near Seattle, and it's the LAW... ;)) but suddenly coffee tasted awful to me. Over the next several weeks I needed to retrain my taste buds to what I liked and what I didn't. I think it was somehow connected to breaking the sugar cycle. Even now, nine months after surgery, if i eat a sugary food, it seems terribly sweet to me, and even a small amount of sugar goes a long way. Not a bad thing, but definitely different than I was used to. (I rewarded myself with a fresh-made milkshake in a restaurant the other day while having dinner out with friends, and I ended up giving away more than half of it. I just couldn't handle all the sweetness.)

You're perfectly normal. Hang in there - things WILL come back to normal, just adjusted for your new bandster palate. It's all part of the journey.

First off, I'm 4 1/2 years post op.. My taste has never been the same since, but if anything, things taste too intense for me now.. It's a good thing for me though because it definitely helps me make better choices when it comes to eating and drinking.. But to this day, I still buy or cook enough food for a "normal" person to eat even though I can't and I waste A LOT of money on food..think I'd get it by now:P Now, milkshakes are way too sweet.. Most fried food is way too greasy and mayo, my most favorite sauce in the world, is now expiring in the back corner of my fridge.. and bread, everything about bread grosses me out- the smell, the texure, the taste..Ugh.. Bad smells make me nauseous.. Hotdogs, bologna, ham, most lunch meat disgusts me.. I was never like this before, the greasier the better, enough sugar to rot out my brains, loved it.. Now, get it all away from me!.. And I personally think that most of that's a good thing, well other than the smells thing.. These changes did come gradually over the past 4 years and I'm not missing that food at all..

I'm not a dieter/exerciser (I know, I know that's not how the LapBand plan goes), the only reason I've lost the weight is because I've lost the taste for those bad foods and I can't eat nearly as much as I used to.. So losing a little of your taste and your tastes changing, isn't always a bad thing!..

Wish you the best:)

I never noticed the change in the way that food tastes. I am a diabetic, so I don't typically eat sugary foods anyway. I substitute sugar in my coffee with Splenda.

I did notice that flavors are much more intense....but for me it's a good thing.

I guess I don't take foods for granted anymore. And that means I appreciate flavors due to the limited amount of food that I can eat.

I compare the phenomenon to anything that becomes forbidden. You tend to want it that much more.

I was told by my dr's nutritionist that they believed it was due to the anestisia and that things that tasted tart before would be sweeter after surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
