Hello My Name is Tammy.

I had lapband plication surgery on September 6. I am doing better, just no energy and still have gas pain. I had the surgery in Ft. Worth. My doctor is Dr. Smith with Ft. Worth Lapband. I have been very happy with him and his staff. I started on the six month insurance program in January at 280 pounds. I weighed 248 at the beginning of my pre op diet. Four days after my surgery, I weigh 240. I am happily married . November will be our 24 anniversary. Our insurance did not go through. We ended up self pay. My husband is very supportive.

Hi my name is Christy and I am scheduled for lapband sugery on September 19. I was totally at peace with this decision until this past week. I got really sick and missed three days of work I was on the first week of the preop diet and it kicked my booty. I cant seem to find a good balance that isnt wrecking havoc on my blood sugar and blood pressure too. On top of all of this I have an inner ear infection and had to go back to the Dr. for the third time. As tough as the first week of preop diet was, I am dreading the 2nd week of the preop diet as it is liquids. I am having serious doubts and so worriead about going through with this. I have however already lost 11 pounds on my own. Yay me!

It does suck! I will NOT sugar coat that for you! But, you can make it. You have to, you want the MD to be able to get in your body with ease and do his or her best. It helps to shrink your liver, which is extremely important! I am one week, one day post op so I just left that part of the process (I so understand what your going through).

I was feeling awful today, like weak and dizzy. I've been pushing fluids and chicken broth because of the sodium thats in it makes me feel like 100% better. Because I am still on liquids, I have to find ways to make this go more smoothly. And so will you, and you can! Next week you will be posting how wonderful your surgery went!!! Congrats on the surgery date!!!

Oh, I didn't realize you already had your surgery! Well, that makes a big difference. Yes, I can have Protein drinks since I am post-op week one. I will be at this stage til next Friday, September 16, each week (7 days) is a new start for me. Well, have you tried the unjury non-flavored Protein? You can use this to added to other drinks (ask you nutritionist what you should do) If you don't like the chicken broth, try beef broth (Swason brand) it is the best in my opinion. I purchased several containers that way I knew I had enough to last me.

I think if I had to drink just chicken broth I wouldn't had made it, I dislike the vegetable broth (gross, yuck, etc).

Yes, I agree with you. I'm kinda affraid about doing the same thing, starting next week I can have up to 1/2 cup per meal of soft foods. I have measuring cups to make sure I am only taking in what I am supposed to have. I plan on asking the RD questions regarding my future diet, this is going to be very new to me. The great thing is I have lots of material to read and try to make sense of, but I still have concerns.

@ kauai bound, I wish you total success with your process, I'm right there with you! Offical now, one week, and two days post op :)...thats exciting to say, I'm so glad I've made it this far!!!

Opps, I got confused. Last week, and this week I've only had chicken broth because that is all I had in my place. But, on my pre-op two week clear liquid diet (with Protein shakes) I did use lots of beef broth. It actually satisfied me, becasue I knew that was ALL I could have. My diet for the last three weeks has consisted of popsicles (SF), Jello (SF), chicken and beef broth, and protein drinks*. (*added on Friday only)

Post-Op: ONLY 20-30 grams of clear protein per day, plus trying to make the goal of 64 fl oz of Clear Liquids everyday.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
