JinTx 19 Posted September 10, 2011 Getting banded in 2 wks. What are the items you would recommend i take to the hospital and have at home for the next few days? Heres what i have so far - clothes, tooth brush, chap stick, gas x, broth, shakes, Jello. What am i missing?
Butterfly Queen 111 3 Posted September 10, 2011 Get your prescriptions -pain medicine-and anti nausea medicine if your doctor will give it to you- filled in advance and have them waiting at home for you when you get there.I recommend Gas-X thin strips and a good heating pad -these are lifesavers when the horrible painful gas pains hit.You also may want to get some Gelatin cups (the pre-made kind that come in a 4- or 6- pack). If you are a lady you may want to bring a few sanitary tampons/pads as this surgery often brings on a woman's cycle. LibraJennifer 1 Posted September 10, 2011 I didnt take anything with me. I went in in pajamas and came out in the same thing. Toothbrush would have been nice, but I was too happy to leave the hospital (I just don't like hospitals). The hospital gave me liquids and propels. Make sure you fill the prescription prior to leaving! Good luck!
Cindy C 150 Posted September 10, 2011 If the doctor doesn't write you a script for anti-nausea meds go buy a bottle of liquid Emetrol. It works wonders. Take a comfortable pillow or two with you. The ones at my hospital were like cardboard. Take sweat pants or pajama pants with you. They are going to expect you to do a lot of walking. You really don't want to do that in hospital gowns! Take a good book or magazine and don't forget your phone charger. I find that canned broth is nasty. I made my own and froze it in ice cube trays then was able to just nuke as little or as much as I wanted when I got home. And you might want some s/f Popsicles and Fudgesicles. You are going to have an awful taste in your mouth from the liquid diet after a few days. Get something lemon flavored to take it away...s/f lemonade or hard candy work really well. bromo 17 Posted September 11, 2011 I hope I am over prepared. After the lists here and those from my doctor, I think I have everything that might even be possibly needed. lol For my overnight hospital stay next week I have packed a light robe and slippers for hall walking, a toothbrush and toothpaste, a travel size lotion to use afterwards on my legs and such since no lotion allowed before surgery, a hairbrush and chapstick. I figured to wear home the clothes I go in and will put a pillow in my daughter's car that morning so it will be there for the ride home. For afterward, I have every otc med mentioned that might be needed, broths, Soups, greek yogurts, and such to make my own Protein drinks with the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored powder. Frozen fruit in the freezer for them as well once that is allowed. I have applesauce and cream of wheat and even a couple of jars of baby food strained pears just because I still like it, and everything else mentioned on my doctor's list. I have a pack of baby spoons and small styrofoam coffee cups to use at first since all of my tablewear and mugs are oversized. The Girl Scout from my youth must be deeply ingrained in me, as I am overboard prepared. But I live alone and although my kids will check on me, I have no one to send to the store for some forgotten item at a moment's notice, so I thought it better to be safe than sorry. NJGirl32 43 Posted September 11, 2011 Stretchy pants are a must! Yoou will be sore and have stitches so some yoga pants for the first 2 weeks. I tried dress pants for work 5 days later and it wasn't comfortable. I was so glad I brough my MP3 player-I was on morphin and couldn't focus on TV-the music helped me relax and sleep. Buy some SF pops to suck on for the first few days. Good Luck!!
