Disgusted with Myself

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I have been a bit down lately and been going through a few personal struggles, that I dare not burden anyone with today.

So for the last month, Honestly I did not do so good with my choices of food and physical activity. I have not had a band fill since June so I have pushed myself to see how far I could go. I was not pleased with my self. I pretty much ate what I wanted and neglected the gym. I may have only gone once a week or none at all. I have seen that I can't deal with stress very well and so everything in my life that means anything has been on the backburner. I hate that I wasted a month to goof off so early into my Lapband journey.

So yesterday, I went to the gym and met with my Fitness Coach and got a weigh in. I had only lost ONE POUND in one months time. I felt so down and lost because I knew that I had messed up. And then My Coach said to me, " At least you didn't gain any weight" , I understood that but it still doesn't change the fact that I wasted so much precious time wallowing in self pity.

If anyone has gone through times when you didn't lose any weight because of whatever reason, How did you get yourself back on track.? Or if you just want to give some positve feedback. Thanks

FeFe ;)

Hi FeFe.

I'm not where you are, but girl I am in a slump too!! Not gaining, but not losing either!! I too have made poor choices here and there and I know that to do better I must eat less and exercise more! I applaud you for at least going to the gym!! I am debating which gym to join (I think I'd like to choices and classes at the YMCA, plus my kids could play and work out while I do too) but it's really expensive compared to the crappy Bally's and 24-hour fitness.

So girlfriend, we both need to exit the pity party and put on our SMALLER GIRL panties and deal with it to get back on track!!! Let's go!! The good news is, tomorrow is a new day, and you DON'T HAVE to repeat your mistakes!!

Thank you Kittyforet,

I needed that. It is time to put on my smaller girl panties and deal with it !

I decided that I the month of September and from now on, I am gonna watch what I eat and exercise more. Plus my fitness coach got me on a whole other fitness regimen. She says that my body needs to be shocked again. I got my Surgery in April 2011 and I lost the weight quick, so now I have to kick it up another notch

The first thing I did was let go of the thing that I could do nothing about: THE PAST!

You messed up, it's done. YOU WENT BACK TO THE GYM! AND YOU STILL LOST WEIGHT!!! YAY FEFE!!!!

Are you kidding??? The way you talked about all you had eaten I just KNEW you had GAINED weight -- but you didn't. Does it make you feel good to beat yourself up about something that you cannot change (i.e., past behavior)? I doubt it. There are enough people out there that LOVE to step on us overweight folks. Don't join them and do it to yourself ... plzzzzz. :)

The reality for me is that if I want to lose weight I have to do what it takes, WHATEVER that is -- it means getting up at 5 a.m. to go to the park and power walk 3 miles before going to work, it means cutting carbs, not eating a lot of sweets. I WANT to lose the weight so ... I do what it takes. For the past 3 weeks I have been going from specialist to specialst. One week I'm told I possibly have brain damage, the next week I'm told I have a mass on my thyroid, the next week I am told I have "many" masses on my thyroid and I have a biopsy done with NO anesthetic! Then I have to wait a week to find out if I have cancer. WTF???!!!!! Yes, I tried to eat over it cuz I'm an emotional eater, but, my band gets tighter when I am stressed so :( no binging for ME! Dang it!!! Yesterday the doc called me as I was driving home from work. The news was good, the mass(es) are benign! I didn't go home, I went to a walking path and power walked 3.6 miles!

Don't let life's stresses destroy you. "Doing what doesn't work --- doesn't work." We KNOW how to get fat(ter). With the band we can help ourselves stop the madness.

GIVE YOURSELF CREDIT for the GOOD you did for yourself: YOU WENT BACK TO THE GYM. Smile at yourself and pat yourself on the back because we both know that there was a time with neither of us would have consider doing something healthy instead of our usual "eating over ANYTHING" pattern. YOU CAN DO THIS. I am proud of you ... please be proud of yourself.

YAY FE FE!!!!

We are here to support you.

Hey FeFe,

You are awesome girl!! I have battled depression and emotional eating. It's harrrrrddddd!!!! I also know the "don't want to move my big butt' feeling when you're THAT down...What you need to remember is you are so worth it. No matter what you are going through. Life has a weird way of working itself out. Rely on those around you. It won't be a burden to tell somebody what's wrong and ask for advice or just an ear to cry in to. If that person cares, it shouldn't be too hard to just listen. If you need to just blow some steam, please feel free to message me personally. I'm a great listener and only want to see you continue on the great path you created for yourself. Continue the great work! ONE pound is better than ZERO pounds or PLUS pounds! You sound like you're getting back to where you need to be. Just remember... YOU ARE SO WORTH IT ALL!

Good luck and take care!

Stacie :D

This is why I love to stop by this forum every day! There are so many wonderful people on here to lift you up when you're feeling down. Few are judgemental and most can completely sympathize. It's so true that worrying about the past gets us no where! Good for you for taking the necessary steps to ensure that you get to the gym and to be accountable to someone until you make it a habit and can get there on your own a little more frequently. You're doing great and like they said, we've got the tool to get us to our goals, don't let that ugly voice in the back of your head get the better of you!

My surgery was april 2010, you and I have lost the same amount of weight. I just got approved for a Tummy Tuck, but have chosen to wait until I lose more weight. Talk about a wast of time, but I am trying to focus on the fact that I am 189 pounds not 250 anymore. before the lap band I would go on a diet and after a year and a half I would have lost 60 pounds and gained back 70. Keep up the good work and be nice to yourself, you deserve it!

Thanks Everyone for the uplifting posts on my discussion. I have gained strength from it

I just love this forum too because you have folks that are going through the same thing or have been there and done that. I have dried my tears and now it is time for me to get serious about my weight loss and being healthy.

One thing I forgot to mention, which an upside to the weight I have lost, My doctor took me off of all diabetic medicine! I no longer need it. Yayyyy! :)

So I can definitely smile from that :P

You need to Celebrate any loss and not focus on any percieved negatives. We all have our ups and downs, but the important thing is to recognize the changes that need to be made and move on. Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it. If you believe in yourself, anything is possible!!!

Hang in there, Fefe, we do all go through hard times and retraining our brains not to turn to food as a comfort is the most difficult part of this journey (IMHO). I had a job scare earlier this year and went through a VERY tough time at work....would cry every weekend over it. But I still lost weight. I think part of the reason was that what I ate was the one thing I had 100% complete control over...so I used that to make good choices.

I would recommend a couple of things. Start off by being diligent to the exercise program that your personal trainer created for you. I started an exercise program right around the time my work stuff was getting uncomfortable and it was such a blessing. I started feeling better almost immediately and my workout became the only time I wasn't in a constant state of worry over my job, mostly because it was so hard that I couldn't think of anything other than getting through the workout. Plus, it's a great mood booster....I would walk out of the gym feeling great, exhausted, but great. I was only taking 2x a week classes so I didn't feel the pressure to exercise every day but I also had no excuse not to make it to class. Unless I was out of town for work....I was in class. My trainer even called me out for being consistent and seeing my progress as a direct result of that.

After you get your exercise routine dialed in for awhile, then I'd concentrate on the food. I found it too overwhelming to do both at once but I also found that once I started exercising, I wanted to improve my stamina and endurance. I wanted to perform better at the gym and changing my diet was a way to do that. So my motivation became more than just "lose weight", it became "improve performance" and "feel better during my workout". I also found a new plan to follow. I know that many of us got the lapband to stop "dieting". But for me, I found out that some hard and fast food rules helps me to get back on track after I've strayed much easier than just promising to myself that I'll stay away from x,y,z. So I started a "carb cycling" diet which many bodybuilders use for quick fat loss. My plan wasn't to eat like that forever, I just did it for 30-60 days to get myself back on track. And it worked...I immediately kickstarted my weight loss in a big way. You can Google "carb-cycling" if you want to learn more about it or you can find a plan that you think will work for you. But having guidelines and following them strictly can be so helpful. Now I'm on a different plan....one that is more livable for me but still getting great results. For the first time since getting my lapband 3 years ago, I see a clear path to getting to my goal weight and I'm so excited by that. It gives me the motivation to keep going every day.

Stick to it and you'll be losing more than 1 pound/month soon!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
