New here, getting back on track...

Recommended Posts

Hi! my name is Ash and I had my surgery in Richmond, VA in January 2008. I started out doing very well, I lost about 35 pounds. I got filled once, then I moved an hour away and never got filled again (totally negligent on my part!) and now I weigh 20 pounds more than I did when I had the surgery. I feel like a failure, and I know that it is definitely possible for me to get back on track. I have an appointment with my surgeon on 9/20, and I'm know that I can get back on the wagon and get where I need to be! I need some encouragement!!!!!

Hello,

I noticed that you and I had the same surgeon-Dr. Brengman. Where do you live now? I live in Emporia, so it is an hour and a half drive for me to go to appointments too , but I have decided that I am gonna make this be a successful venture for me. You didnt go through this for nothing. Get back in there and get back on track. If you need a buddy to keep you on track, just let me know. I hope that I will continue on with doing as well as I am right now. I have been a yo yo dieter. I have lost many pounds in the past only to gain it back. Thats why i chose lap band. I know I can lose it- I just need this tool to yank me back if I start to stray. Make your mind up to get that fill as you need it and the rest should take care of itself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
