vickyb1001 0 Posted September 6, 2011 MY surgeon said that if my stomach isnt empty enough that I can not get my surgery so how do I know?. I have been on these protien shakes for 9 days now and I have 5 more to go but im worried my stomach isnt emptied enough yet? I know this might sound crazy his suergery means everything to me right now and I just want everything to go perfect. IS there any signs that tells me my stomach is empty? { besides growling all the time} Thanks vb
Cindy C 150 Posted September 6, 2011 If you're on liquids for 14 days before surgery, you have nothing to worry about. Your stomach has to be empty for any surgery. That's why they say nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before.
TheBandedPeach 3 Posted September 7, 2011 My surgeon told me strictly clear (see thru) liquids like: chicken/veggie/beef broth, watered down juice, tea, crystal light, sugar free popsicles, stuff like that for 5 days straight before surgery and I was perfectly fine doing that, as well as I lost 13 lbs from it. Watch out for day 2 and 3 though when you will start to need to be near a bathroom at all times. Each doc seems to be different though, so you might want to just ask him. BaileyRose 13 Posted September 8, 2011 I had no pre op diet other than the obvious "nothing to eat or drink after midnight" and my surgery went great. You will definitely be empty if your on a 2 week liquid diet. :-)
Jachut 487 Posted September 8, 2011 If you're fasting for 12 hours or so before you'll be fine, but you can be extra sure by doing liquids - they wont stick around. Not only will your stomach be empty, but most likely your entire digestive tract.
