What's normal??

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I have a question, I am two weeks post op today and I am now feeling hungry after meals. I am controlling my hunger and only eating (drinking) what I am suppose too but is it normal to feel hungry prior to my first fill? Also, I lost 16lbs the first week and the second week I lost nothing. Am I doing something wrong??

No, you're not doing anything wrong. You appear to be doing everything just like you should. 16 pounds the first week is great but this time is about healing, not losing weight. Just keep doing what you are and the weight will start falling off when it's time!

Jsea, are you are two weeks post op and still on liquids? If so, once you start solids or at least mushies, you will have more of a sense of fullness. But that is the NEW feeling of fullness!....more like, not physically hungry, versus feeling our old feeling of full. It was a little weird figuring out to be satisfied with that new "full." but I have sort of done that with all my diets in the past (remember?!). Except now, the band will keep us feeling that way forever, once we get to our green zone/sweet spot! And just wait til the pounds and sizes keep falling! It is quite the reward. Continued good luck to you on this wonderful, life-changing journey!

Actually I had my two week post-op follow-up yesterday and I am now on mushies for two weeks then onto regular foods. Thank you all for your words of wisdom, god knows I'm so new to this and do not really know what to expect other than weight loss. I spoke to my doctor yesterday and like all of you, she said this is a time of healing not a time of weight loss and until my first fill I can't and shouldn't expect any weight loss. So I am going to stop worrying about it and instead concentrate on healing, exercising and doing the best I can. You are all amazing, thank you so much!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
