A Message Board Pet Peeve

Part of being human is having an array of emotions that range from silly to angrily outraged. Some people think it's bad to show emotions, but I think it makes us all honest. I would rather see someone's true feelings than wonder if they feel at all.

I totally agree. But for me personally, I know when it's coming from an honest place or an angry place. If I post right away, it's the latter. It comes across as aggressive. If I wait, I can converse with someone in a more clear, honest way and they can respond in a more clear and honest way without feeling attacked. And in that way there is a better chance of something good coming from the exchange.

Well, let's see... I'd better quote that in case you DELETE it and my response makes no sense.

DAMN! WHERE is that "poke" emoticon. I can't seem to find it.

Oh but, LOL -- I JUST found this one...

:puke:

Woulda been sooo appropo for the D'alahlin's post on another thread.

(I can't believe there's a PUKING emoticon!!! What will they think of next???)

And let me just add that anyone who thinks emotions get out of hand here shoulda been around for some of the "MAC vs PC" arguments I waded thru on the Compuserve desktop publishing forum in earlier days. The posts around here are tame comparably.

Then five minutes later I realize I was acting like the child of a lunatic, so I delete my words hoping I didn't hurt anyone yet. Make sense? I'm a work in progress, but at least I catch my faults and correct them when possible.

Hell, I leave mine up as reminder to everyone. Watch out for her.. she's Nuts! *laughs*

(although I do also try to make up for it - see my post on the "Another Erosion" thread)

Honestly I think its too much to ask people to be kind and loving all the time. Show me a single example where this happens in your daily life (other than spouses, perhaps).

Anything from the pissed off boss, to the sarcastic joke from a friend. They all can hurt your feelings and its up to you to figure out how to deal with it.

This is a forum, a meeting place where people get together and openly discuss subjects and express their opinions. Every word on these boards are opinions (even the stuff recorded as a fact).

If we could all be loving and kind all the time it would be fabulous. It isn't going to happen and its unrealistic to even think that it could.

As for the concept of cautioning someone. I can support that totally if its a direct insult: Dawg, you are a scumsucking SOB and need to STFU.

But if its something like: I personally think your decision to use Dr. Blah shows lack of foresight and I question why you would do such a thing...

That's not an insult. It's an opinion.

A forum is based on the guiding principal of "Freedom of Speech". I for one do not want a candy coated LaLa Land where we are all afraid to open our mouths, in fear of hurting someone.

I respect everyone's opinion, and I respect anyone's right to disagree with me.

We are here to provide support and friendship, but we're also here to discuss a topic which can raise high emotions.

Kare, I have feelings too. How many jokes does it take to get DeLarla to take an LBT vacation? Last time I stopped posting, I was innundated with e-mails and phone calls telling me to get my butt back. I will ground you from me, then you'll miss me. I'm like a drug - bad for you but you gotta have me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
