Feeling frustrated and grumpy

Recommended Posts

I'm feeling a bit frustrated right now.

I've been weighing in of a Monday morning. I had a 1 week pre-op diet, and in that week I lost 3.6kg. Then first week post-op I lost 3kg.

Second post-op week, I lost 0.1kg.

Third week post-op, I lost 0.1kg.

Now, both those weeks, I weighed myself midweek and was up to 1kg lighter, but then by Monday morning weigh-in, I was back up to only 0.1kg lighter than the previous week.

And for reference, 0.1kg is 0.22 of a pound. Less than half a glass of Water. So, pretty much nothing.

I don't really understand it. I'm probably eating a quarter of what I used to eat before. No junk food. I went on a couple of power walks this week. How is it possible that I've lost so little weight for two consecutive weeks???

Hi Rebecca, it is frustrating when the scales don't reflect all your hard work! Just remember that your body is still healing and adjusting to your new eating and exercise regime. Plus, we all lose at a different rate. Just keep your chin up and keep up the good work. I am sure that the rewards will come for you.

BTW - where are you in Australia? I'm in regional Vic.

Incidentally, I'm craving chocolate and ice cream tonight, which makes me think that AF may be gearing up to come early this month - which would definitely explain the gain. I always retain over 1kg of Fluid the week before AF, and lose it the first couple of days.

Nothing to do with weight loss and the band, but just wanted to say hi to you wonderful Australians! I was there two years ago for two weeks. Went to Adalaide, Kangaroo Island, the Great Barrier Reef and the rain forest. Beautiful, beautiful, and what nice people! Wish I stayed longer and saw more!

By the way, good luck to you both. I've been at the band thing for a little over 3 months, and despite the few little negative 'downs' (little or no weight loss sometimes, or even once, a weight gain!) it has been an amazing journey, already reaping super rewards (off 3 blood pressure meds, down 4 sizes!).

The frustration/grumpiness will pass, I promise! It will visit again from time to time, but like my Mom always said, "This too shall pass." And it always did! Best of luck to you down under!

It can be frustatrating, especially after reading all the great stories of weight loss. But dont give up hope, your body is healing and everyone lose weight at different rates. I was so frustrated to find out after the surgery that my doc put nothing in my band and he wanted me to heal at least 6 weeks before my first fill..then i finally get first fill and it was only a freaking 1cc fill, i feel no restrictions and my weight loss has come to a near halt..loss 2lbs in a months time..so i go back monday and hopefully he will get me up to atleast 3cc so I can actually feel like I have a band on lol. But I am still determined and have great expectations that things will come about in next few months..I went many years with this weight and trying not to be too antsy about the reults being an overnight feat lol. Just heal up and I am sure you will be on your way.

You went to some beautiful spots! I visited Adelaide/Kangaroo Is for the first time in 2007 when pregnant with my daughter - it's a lovely spot! And I've scuba dived the GBR, which was awesome!

As for the weight loss, it's slooowly dropping off... I get my first fill on 29 September, so hopefully that makes a difference!

You were very recently banded! Think of your body as a small child, crossing it's arms and stamping down a foot, refusing to do what you tell it to. That's exactly how I think of it- your body is confused, and healing, and it's telling you "I have no idea what's going on but I refuse to move until this all gets sorted out". You're doing exactly what you should- keep at it and the scale WILL start moving soon.

I was banded only a few days before you, 8-4-11. I lost 5 lbs on my pre surg diet and only 7 lbs the 4 weeks after that. I exercize EVERY day. I too was frustrated. I was told that it is normal. I think the real problem is in our heads. It took me years to get consistantly fat and I want it all to come off RIGHT NOW. But reality is that it wont. Once I wrapped my mind around that I was fine. I have stopped weighing my self and I am focusing more on how I feel. Which I have to say is WAY BETTER than I used to feel. I have 1 yr to loose all my weight and at the rate I am going I will hit my goal weight in 10 mts. I have always been a " I want what I want, and I want it right now" person. The band is teaching me different. Good luck with your journey!!!

Love your analogy! I just got back from a visit with my precious 22-month-old grandson, and you nailed it perfectly! hahaha!!

I can so identify with the first part of what you are say (I'm doing something about it so expect it now!), and am so working on the second part of your metamorphosis-- the patience part, especially during the plateau times! Thanks for the reminder! It's definitely a long journey, and one of our lessons is obviously patience! Thanks! Continued good luck to you with your weight loss and your insightful outlook!

It's true, I'm expecting it to disappear overnight, which is just not going to happen! :D

Your right. It wont. As long as you are on track for the big picture, the small goals will happen when they happen. Concentrate on how much better you are feeling and that will help keep yo on track to hit your overall goal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
