So a little frustrated and severly disappointed. Banded on 8/17 and have lost about 10 lbs, 2 lbs being pre-op. I know I have only myself to blame. I started solids earlier than i should have...Like by week 2. I can pretty much eat like I did before surgery. I can eat regular bites, with regular chewing...and I am pretty much a "chew 3-4 times and swallow kinda girl." Some days I am famished! Other days, I'm ok with eating a few small meals. I noticed the SECOND I started eating something other than protien drinks, I stopped losing weight and even GAINED 4 lbs back. When I weighed in today, I was back at 182...but when I was strictly Protein Drinks, I was down to 181.6

I have my good days and bad and trying to stick with drinking at least 16 oz of Protein drinks in addition to whatever I eat. I am supposed to go for my very first fill on Sept 8th and I am almost embarressed to see my doctor. His advice was if I wanted to see maximum weight loss, I could stick to a Protein Drink ONLY diet and lose a pound a day, for the next 90 days. 90 DAYS?!?!? Really? Who wants to do that!?!? Well of course, my boyfriend heard that and since it came straight from the doctors mouth, that is what I should be doing. UGGGH!!!

I have been reading that now is not the time to focus on weight loss, but on healing. Well I am a mother of 3, 2 of which are under the age of 2 years, so healing had to come pretty quick for me. And because I saw such a quick weight loss in the first week and now NOTHING, Im hating life right now. I have learned more on this site than from my actual doctor, who neglected to tell me that I may have no restriction until I get a (few) fills. But I feel like I am doing something wrong. Advice and/or encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

You have to put you mind to it and you will do fine, just tell your self that you can do it, try to go to a gym to work out that will get your mind off food, just try to stick with the Proteins for about a month and you will see big results, and when you see how much you're lost you will keep doing your proteins.

I'm not a doctor, but that sounds absurd being on a Protein drink only diet for 90 days. And even then, what happens when you start eating food after the 90 days? Probably gain a lot of the weight back.

The first few weeks after surgery are hard, we all expect that we'll be the special case and lose lose lose. Unfortunately it doesn't happen that way. Hopefully everything will go great with your fill and you can get on the right track.

you just need a fill. my doctor told me the first 4 weeks after surgery and before my first fill is not about losing weight, but about letting my body heal and to adjust to the band. i too was eating like before i had the band about 3 weeks out and once i got my fill, i noticed i was not eating as much. i did not get good restriction until my 4th fill. everyone is different. some get restriction immediately, some take a while. don't get discouraged. once you get a fill, you will start losing again. make sure you get your Water in too.

Okay, here is my 2 cents worth! You were only banded 2 weeks ago. Why are you in such a hurry to try to eat what is not recommended? You should not be eating and swallowing as normal. I know that is a tough thing to hear as a mother of 3 little ones, but you need to take a baby spoon and eat little tiny bites, and chew, chew, chew. Practice that! Small portions on small plates are what you are trying to achieve, not what you can eat, but what you should eat. Drink plenty of fluids and get bak to your surgeons guide line, then you will start loosing again, and you will not be embarrassed to go back to the surgeon for your 1st fill. Good luck. Karen

Hang in there!!!! It's so hard at this stage, just try stay positive , I know it's easier said than done. I to put back up 5 lb before my first fill. I've just had my first one and am feeling a bit of restriction now. I'm not a doctor either but 90 days on Protein Shakes sounds mad!!!! I mean the reason why we all have got this band is because we can do it from 'fad' diets and that just sound like another diet you will fail at!!!!! I'm telling you liquids for 2 weeks was hard enough never mind for 90 days, sure you may as well have just gone onto SLimfast!!! I would really question this? Good luck with your journey, it's very dishearting St this stage, hang in there xxx

If you dont practice chewing now while you have no fills when you do start to get them and get stuck you will wish to God you had learned to chew well. Its painful and not desirable. You need to stick to the diet the surgeon gave you and dont sway from it and just because you can eat as much as you want dont do it. Stick to what they told you. You have to help some or most even with fill the band is not going to make your food choices for you.

I too am struggling with eating. I was allowed to go onto solids 3 weeks after the surgery and once I did, the scale started to go back up. I can eat anything and everything and I am just as hungry as I was before. I try to remember that this is a journey and just because I got this tool dosen't mean that I am not going to have to focus on what I am eating. But man, that would be so great if I could eat whatever I wanted! I am going for my first fill on Tuesday and I am looking forward to feeling some restriction and getting this weight loss ball rolling. Hopefully it will not take to long or too many fills to reach that Sweet Spot!.

Keep fighting the good fight!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
