This is my first post as a new bander. I had surgery 9 days ago and everything was feeling great. Starting this evening I am having pain at the port site while getting up from a sitting position. I know my port is sewn in and it feels like the muscle beneath is pulling, maybe on a stitch. If anyone has experienced this please let me know if this normal during healing as I am paranoid about any unusual feelings.

I had that pain. It will go away. I use to not be able to sleep in either of my sides because it felt like my port was pulling so hard. Just try getting up a little slower... And eventually you'll feel much better.

Thanks for your reply. I just wanted to be sure this was not an infection or something. I will follow that advice.

If you're concerned I'd check with your doctor. I did have a port infection. But thankfully it cleared up. If you have an infection it will be swollen, very hot to touch, red... And you'll probably have a fever. If you have any of those symptoms call your doctor asap and get an antibiotic. Hope you feel better soon!

It sounds completely normal! You'll soon learn to bend in a different way when you get up... it's hard to remember in the beginning but it'll become second nature to angle your body a different way so you don't pull on your port.

Definitely have to find a new way to get up from sitting position. I think you are exactly right though. I think I strained the muscle a bit. I put an ice pack on and itis feeling much better. Thanks for the advice.B)

That sounds kinda like what I'm feeling, except it is more uncomfortable sitting up. I feel like it is almost a burning sensation. I was thinking I needed to call my Dr. but after reading this I guess I am ok. BUT how long will it be this uncomfortable sitting in the upright position?

Hi Jess, I have been reading alot of posts on this subject and I think we will be OK. I think it's just part of the healing process. I personally am paranoid about everything that feels funny though because I just dont know what to expect. Good Luck with your weight loss.cool.gif

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
