A question for the ladys

Recommended Posts

OK, I have been on BC since I was 17 and my periods are like clockwork. I had surgery and BOOM, three heavy periods in 6 weeks. Went to my GYN and she said not to worry, surgery and weight loss are a shock to the system. In about 2 months, everything was on schedule again. As for hair loss, make sure you are getting plenty of Protein. I also added Biotin to my supplements. It promotes hair nail and skin health. For me, it worked great!

Good luck, everyone!

I was always irregular that is why I was on BC. Had to give that up 8 weeks prior to surgery, so I was not happy when I got my period the morning after surgery. I then went 6 weeks without one to only get a light one for 2 weeks. I talked to the NP about it and she said it is normal, but I am also now on the Depo shot which also can cause the same thing, so I am unsure of what it is, but I will not be getting the Depo shot again, so I shall see!

They say that the surgery can mess with your schedule, because of the invasiveness to your body. Unfortunately mine didn't mess me up at all!! I wouldn't stress- just relax

Katyana is right. Our bodies store hormones in the fat we are all fighting to get rid of. Now that we are burning that aft for energy instead of using food as the primary source all those chemicals are being released into our system. Just like many suffers of PCOS see symptoms disappear others will notice changes to menses as well. Hang in there, your body will work through it and adjust to your new normal....as you will to the new you.

My periods have been going crazy. I get about two a month with maybe a week and a half between. I am considering going on bc, but dont really want to. I went from having one period every 4 mths to this! I am hoping that after i lose more weight, my body will be able to fluctuate better

I went from not having a period for 15 months pre-surgery to having three in six weeks immediately post-surgery. Now almost five months post, I am back on monthly schedule but, oh boy, is this one a doozy! At the risk of TMI, I got out of bed this morning to go for a walk but needed a shower and to change my bed instead!

This hits so close to home. Actually I just found out I am 6 weeks pregnant on Sept 1st. But I had also posted somewhere in here about if being late was normal. Anyhow,my surgery date was june 29th '11 and my last period ( which came two weeks early) was June30th '11. I never got my period and was totally.freaked so I took four pregnancy tests and they were all neg. Went to the er last thur for severe stomache cramps which I thought was my lap band...nope you have a uti..and you're pregnant. Haha,me and my husband just shared our one year anniversary and didn't do anything but think about the best gift ever, our little baby. Anyway moral of the story, never hurts to go to the doc. I'm not saying your pregnant or anything but there might be a.other reason for it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
