getting an unfill

Recommended Posts

Last monday I went in for another fill since I had no weight loss for 5 weeks. I went from 2.8 cc's to 2.9 cc's. In the past week I have not been able to eat solids and Protein drinks are hard to get down. It hurts to eat or drink anything. It has been hard to drink all of my Water.

I am going in today to have the .1 cc removed. I am comfortable with the decision. I think I was trying to keep up with a friend who has the band and has 3.0 cc's. This is a good lesson that everyone is different and the band is a tool. I do not think it was meant to make me miserable all of the time. I am ready for the unfill and to start following the band directions.

Kathy

Good realization, we are all different.

Its so hard for me to comperhend that 5cc's equals 1 teaspoon. and .1cc is less than a drop, what a difference that makes?

I'm glad for your decision to let some out.

Good luck, keep us posted.

Kathy,

I'm having a similar experience. I was banded in September and had my first fill last tuesday. I didn't need a fill before because I was consistantly losing weight. Ever since last tuesday I have had trouble eating anything, even liquids. I had the surgery as part of a clinical trial, which is great because I get the best of medical care and don't have to pay any out of pocket but theres a downside to being part of a clinical trial. See the doctors want all the participants to be successful so consistant weight loss is a must. I called my nurse today to ask what I should do since I am so uncomfortable eating anything, even drinking Water, and she had a talk with my doctor. My doctor said that since I wasn't vomitting that I shouldn't come in to have some of the liquid removed. I should instead go on an all liquid diet, again, and see how it goes. If I start to vomit then I need to go back in and have them losen the band. I'm really frustrated because I've lost 7 lbs since Tuesday ( 6 days) and have lost so much energy since I'm hardly eating. I want to continue the weight loss but not to the point where I can't function as usual. Anyway, I totally support your decision to losen you restriction. It's a tough decision but you need to do what's best for you. If it were up to me I would do the same but unfortunately I'm not able to make that decision. I hope you feel better in the near future.

Have you tried eating any solid foods? I vomited on a couple bites of scrambled eggs and other soft foods. I was feeling weak and getting headaches from not eating. It would take me hours to drink a Protein drink.

I had .1 to .2 taken out yesterday and feel tons better. Drinking Water is not painful anymore.

I hope your doctor listens to you. If not tell them you are vomiting before you get to weak.

Kathy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
