I am 7 weeks post-op and am able to eat whatever, whenever I want. I even had my first fill at 4 weeks and still no real restriction. Please all of your success stories give my some insight as to what worked the best for you. I am becoming very discouraged. I am afraid that I am going to be the one LapBander that still stays fat and couldn't lose my weight. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Continue to try and make the best food choices you can and exercise. Just because there is no restriction now doesn't mean it won't happen at your next fill.

It's still early days for you so dont get discouraged. Restriction after just one fill is really unusual and may actually take three or more fills. As coolchick said, keep working on your diet and exercise. This is a life long journey for all of us. Good luck.

Just because you can eat as much as you want does not mean that you should. You have to have some constraint on food intake. The band will not stop you from eating too much food it only stalls your hunger for four to five hours. You have to do some of it also just think you do 90% the band does 10%

My advice is to be patient. It usually takes a few fills to get restriction, took me 3. However, everyone's experience is different. I would focus on eating the right foods, lowcarb/high protien/lowfat even if your portions are larger than they will be once you have restriction. I also highly reccomend starting an excersise program. There are just so many benefits, just one being weight loss. Start out slow, and gradually increase your duration/intensity. I started out walking slowly for 20 minutes on the treadmill. I now jog for 30 or walk very briskly on an incline for 45 minutes. I haven't learned to love it, but it's become a matter of routine. It always feels good after. You can do it!

Don't be discouraged!!! Focus on your victories ...like reaching out to your lapband family :) and start taking things one day and one meal at a time. Just because you can ... no longer means that you should!! In the beginning you really need to make the best choices you can, at every meal, and eat (and eat and eat) your Protein. Eating Protein in small amounts throughout the day will help bring you the success you are looking for. It does take lots of willpower I won't lie - but you will be AMAZED at how quickly it gets easier. I am on week 11 - not far past you - and I am finding it easier everyday :) Take steps to help you on your road - get rid of everything that is even slightly tempting; have every kind of protein in the house (cheese sticks are a life saver); eat and eat and eat... get rid of the thought of having to diet... just choose small amounts protein instead :) and remember to eat slowly; drink in between (even if you have to set an alarm); excercise even if it's walking. If you stick to those key principals you WILL BE SUCCESSFUL!!!! You will be successful because of YOU not the liquid they put in your band.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
