Back from my cruise with a tight fill...

Recommended Posts

I had my 4th fill 3 days before my cruise and it was tight. I thought about an unfill-but I was able to eat food, just not a lot of food. Well I have to say I was tight for the entire cruise (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). I could only eat small amounts of food and only cream of wheat in the mornings. On the 2nd day of my vacation I felt sick all day (probably from a teeny piece of dry chicken I had). Not a pleasant day and I started regretting the fill and thought that perhaps my band may have slipped. I simply could not eat anything without getting sick. After dinner (which I did not really eat) I had to rush back to my stateroom and barely made it in time to puke-not good.

But the next day and the remainder of the cruise was good and I selected items I knew I could handle. We sat at a table with 3 other couples from various parts of the South. You learn a few tricks to not look obvious about eating so little. You take small bites, give some to your hubby to "try" and then mash around what's left and scarp it off to the side. Unfortunately those tropical drinks had no problem going down along with other alcholic beverages. Desserts went down fine too (although I didn't over do them at all). The most important thing was to not eat at the airport or before boarding a plane (I can't imagine a worse though then being stuck and beiing on a plane).

So tomorrow I'll step on the scale and see what damge my umbrella-type drinks did! I was glad I had the fill because there simply wee way too many temptations!

I'm going on a 7 dau <Mexican cruise on te 18th. I went on a 4 day one in March and ended up losing weight (was seasck so I threw up almost everyting I ate). This time I have a presription for a patch for behind my ear. Hope I don't gain any weight! I also plan on having a margarita (I have about 2 a years!)

Glad you had a good time. I can't wait to go snorkeling in Cabo San Lucas!

Brave girl, I get seasick just thinking about a ship. That added to a tight band, I might have taken over the ship as a crazy woman. Glad you had fun and you found a way to make things work.

I've only been on one trip since being banded, but it was for 11 days. I was considering getting a fill a week before, but thought better of it because I was afraid of having problems and being on the opposite side of the country than my doctor.

I never got sea sick before being banded, but now I get very sea sick and sick on amusement park rides, and car sick too!

Anyhow, I hate coming home from a holiday and feeling fat and having gained weight! it spoils the entire holiday. I would trade a thousand times over being able to eat anything for the feeling of control and knowing I'm not going home fat. Nothing tastes as good as that feels to me. That's also why you would have seen me running around the ship's perimeter (if you could have gotten me on it in the first place), or in the ship's gym every day.

Thanks for sharing, I was banded on 8/12 and I leave for my 7 day cruise on 9/18. Im suppossed to have my first fill 4 days before I leave, but I dont think im going to do that to myself. I just have to deal with weight gain if it happens, but I dont want to get sick. Im mostly scared of being tortured by all that food that I cant eat, hopefully, I will be able to stick to my small portions and be full enough that the food wont tempt me too bad.

The scale said I gained 4 pounds-really??!! I drank 4 pounds worth? Maybe it's jetlag weight because I know it isn't food weight! I gotta hit the gym and get back into the groove!

Oh-forgot to mention that I went through a full bidy scanner at the airport and they pulled me over for a pat down - I can't help but to wonder if it was the band that set it off? That was the first time I ever was pulled to the side and also the first time I went through one of those machines.

Did your doctor say why? For a frequent traveler that would be quite a lot of fills and unfills.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
