Hi All,

My name is Elena. I had my lap band put in 1.5years ago and i love the new lease on life it has given me. I am slowly losing the weight (16kg up to date) and i have gained a kilo since i started.

the lap band has helped me lose some weight and it has made me more confident and happy in life. I am now dating more and not using my weight as an excuse not to see someone.

I faced a lot of negativity when i told people about getting the lap band and i still do. I think its unfortunate because they dont understand what the band does for people. Most of the time its not an easy weight loss tool, its something that helps people fight diabetes, get healthier and happier and more confident with in themselves.

im no angel when i comes to my diet, im addicted to coke a cola and chips, but everyday im cutting more and more of it out of my diet and i couldnt be happier.

YAY for lap band!

Welcome. I am also new. I just got banded on 8/22. I know what you mean about the negativity. When I made the decision, I only told my immediate family and 2 friends and my supervisor of course. I was pleasantly surprised it remained a secret for the 5 months prior to surgery. The only person that slipped was my mother in law(of course) But people think when someone does this, that we are taking the easy way out, this was a major decision that I truly tossed around for a couple of years. My shortness of breath was getting worse and I knew I needed to do something about it. I was puffing my rescue inhaler about 4-6 times a day and panicked when I didn't have it in my pocket. Since surgery, I've used my inhaler maybe 3 times. This is a very good site to get information and advice and has helped a lot.

I had quit drinking soda for 2 weeks quite a while ago and during that time I lost 10 lbs. If you can quit pop period, it is so much better for you.

hi guys,

it is so hard to quit coke a cola. every time i try its like giving up smoking (which i also do). i get migranes, i cant sleep, im irritated all the time etc.

i tried swapping to diet but for some reason diet products make me constantly want to vomit! i guess the only way it to just cut it out and drink water... but its so flavour and caffineless. ha ha.

they say carbonated drinks expand your stomach so you can eventually eat more and more. But alot of people with lapband have recommended having some fizzy drink/pop when your stuck because the bubbles help to bring up excess food or to help you burp up any air that might be stuck under you food.< /p>

its a whole new world with lap band

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
