What helps with fill swelling

Recommended Posts

I was banded about 5days ago. At first, I was STARVING on the liquid diet...then about 3days ago, I started havin to pretty much spit up the liquid that goes in, even Water. I don't feel hunger pangs like I did on days 1&2 anymore. I did throw up normally 2 times but not in the last 24hrs. I called my surgeon and he doesn't think it slipped, he said its probably just swollen and feeling really restrictive. It almost feels as tho there's a clogged drain down in there and it's just sitting full of liquid not passing thru any more. I can't seem 2 find any info online about band swelling immediately post surgery. There was a feeling of nausea, but that's subsided quite a bit today. Now it's just wanting to drink and nothing wanting 2 stay in.

Hi Kara, I was banded last Thursday and I am feeling almost the same way as you, I was looking through posts wondering if people felt the same way or if maybe my band area is just swollen. I feel like something is stuck like you or liquids are just not going down, also when I breath in deep I feel a pain (I didnt have that till today) swallowing I feel a little dis-comfort down my esph. I felt good yesterday and now today its different, I would think each day things would be feeling better.. not the other way around. Im going to call Dr. tommorow and see what he thinks I should do.

Sip, sip, sip!!!If you are trying to gulp or drink too much at one time, the swelling, which is natural due to your surgery, will cause a back up. I still even 3 1/2 years down the line have times where my band does not let liquids go down, quickly! Calm down!!!Best wishes, Karen

No offense, but I am soooo glad to hear of SOMEONE else who has this issue. 4days of this...that can't b right. I haven't been eating. I just drink little sips and it just won't stay in there. I've lost about 20lbs in 5days. Why didnt I have this issue on days 1&2...I could swallow things fine then nothing came back up.

Thanks for ur advice. I don't feel as tho I am gulping....i mean I'm not sure if I am too often trying to take sips, but usually it's right after liquid comes back up and it tastes horrible so I take a sip. I usually feel a bit better when I wake up in the mornings but then it starts all over again soon as I take a drink. I try to stay calm- but dehydration is a worry as it feels like only about 80-90% of what I do drink is making it thru.

I just had my first fill in 4 years and struggle with the hunger I am feeling. I have a little discomfort in my stomach but am worried it wasn't a big enough fill because I can still gulp drinks/shakes with no issues. I accidentally did that oday out of habit

, panicked briefly then was ok because I realized it didn't do anything to me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
