being put to sleep

Recommended Posts

My surgery is on the 6th and I am very nervous about being put to sleep. I am not sure why. I know everything will be ok. I think i am so worried about it because i am a control freak and being under you have no control. Am I the only one who is scared or what. Please only respond with words of encouragment i dont want to be scared anymore than i already am.

I too was so scared. I kept coming up with these completely irrational situations that "could" happen. I had never had surgery before or been under for anything so it was all new for me too... But it really was super easy. And it was kinda interesting and fun actually. You'll do just fine :-) try not to worry too much.

It's perfectly normal to be nervous about anesthesia, but rest assured that you will be in good hands. The OR team will be monitoring you every inch of the way. You'll be in recovery and awake before you know it. I understand the your need for control. I'm the same way. But, honestly, if you were in control of your life you wouldn't need WLS. Think of this as the first step in regaining that control!

You will do great. I have been put to sleep one time when I got my wisdom teeth taken out. I was also very nervous. But the whole process was very easy and relaxing. The time between them starting my IV and waking up in recovery seemed like a few seconds. I was completely unaware of the time that had passed. In my experience, I woke up very cold and crying. I'm not sure why I was crying. I wasn't in pain or anything. They said that it's just a side effect of the anesthesia for some people. Within a couple minutes I was okay. You will do great. I'm more nervous about the days following the surgery. Learning how to eat and being able to do things (like chase after my 20 month old!!)

When I woke up in y I remember feeling a little sad and felt like I had been crying earlier. I felt my face and there were tears. I asked the nurse if I was crying when they woke me and she said yes so they put me back under for about 30 minutes. She said people do that all the time... Especially if they're woken up too early. Interesting.

I was terrified, to the point I seriously thought about canceling. Not a single problem. Could not have gone smoother. I wish you the best, enjoy the journey!

It is normal to feel that way. I've had 3 surgeries in my life now. I've had no problems and it really does seem like only a few minutes have passed. The only weird thing about the lap-band surgery was how they strapped me down on the surgical table before being put under. It was literally like I was being strapped down like Jesus being put up on the cross. Your arms are stretched out to the side and each leg has its own holder or stirrup..I guess after you're out they move the table up at an angle, so you really do look like you are on a cross. That is the last thing I remember before they said you'll be falling asleep in a few seconds. Bizarre.

Being put out is my huge fear as well. I'm very clausterphobic. The idea of the mask and all just scares the stuff outta me. I also heard about being strapped down and feel like I will panic at the wrong time and they won't get me completely out. Or I will wake before they remove the tube. It is all irrational, but scary none the less. But I keep telling myself i didn't go tthrough the last 10 months of prep to chicken out now.

I am also scared to death of the gynocologist. LOL I know i am strange. I had a thought today. If I were to need to be put to sleep at the gynocologist for a surgery i wouldnt be able to do it. Like i tottally couldnt do it. The gyno even has to give me valuim 2 days before i go in or else i wont even go. I asked my surgeon for some valuim again he still said no. But now that i think of what I could be going into surgery for the lapband surgery doesnt bother me so much anymore.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
