Oh that first slime

Oh Monday night dinner with a friend to have my first stuck/slime. What an awful experience, lessoned learned but awful none the less. My friend and I went out and I ordered a seared tuna rice bowl with brown rice. Two weeks ago was my first fill since surgery. I have had some minor stucks which did not result in sliming. I have learned no mashed potatoes or potatoes of any kind. I have lost 40 pounds so far so I feel as if I have been compliant. Needless to say Monday night came on after a couple of bites of brown rice. It seemed like it took forever for the stuck to go down. I did find the excessive salivation to be problematic since I swallowed too much before I realized that I need to spit...lesson learned. I did not vomit so to speak but I did burp up the foamy foam twice. When I got back to the hotel, I travel with work, I got online to look up this event because I could not remember what to do. I found this forum and read everyone's post, did liquids for 24 hours, am buying papaya tabs to keep on hand just in case. I promise myself that I am going to be extra careful, chew extra long and try to never have that experience again. My back is still achy. Hopefully it will be better or my doc says he will do a swallow study on Friday. YIKES, that scared me into being more aware of chewing and bite sizes.

I learned that lessen the hard way too. Trust me, my episode was about 100 times worse than yours. I was outside in the blazing hot sun about 8 weeks after surgery waiting in line to get into Comerica Park for a Detroit Tigers' game. When they opened the gates, my son and I went to the restaurant where I chugged 2 great big glasses of ice Water. I didn't order food but took a bite of one of his french fries. That's all it took. I sat there fighting it off for about 20 minutes when all of a sudden all that water, mixed with saliva, started coming back up. It looked like Old Faithful! It only takes happening once to know you never want it to happen again!

Been there, and it is no fun at all! had mine a few weeks ago with family at a nice restaraunt. LOL! Water pouring out of my nose, as i am gasping to breath. i pushed two people out of the way to get the bathroom. Nice huh! it usually only takes once and you learn your lesson.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
