liquid diet started today,august 31st

Recommended Posts

Today I started my pre op liquid diet. It honestly isn't as hard as I thought (I'm sure it will get harder from here). I'm supposed to have 6 slimfast meals a day and so far I have had one. I just made sugar free Jello and will be having that later. I have to do this until september 12th (day before my surgery). Any advice on how to make the days go quicker? Thank you :)

I have been on a liquid diet for the past 9 days and my surgery is on the 7th :) I get to have 3 protien shakes a day to replace meals, and as much Water, crystal light and chicken broth as I want...lol! It really hasnt been hard for me beacuse I have been trying to stay busy and when I start to feel hungry and it isnt time for a shake, I just drink a lot of water/crystal light to hold me over. Good luck!

I have my appt today with the pre op nutrionist so find out when I start. I have my surgery on Sept 22nd!! I actually found on here a long list of tons of different Protein Shakes and stuff. I can send it to you if you'd like. I emailed it to myself because I'm sure it can get boring quick to only strictly be on liquids. But just think we'll have fabulous results in the end :)

I'm also on my 9th day of the all liquid pre-op diet and I am having a tough time with it. The first few days were easy but I am really sick and tired of Protein Shakes, sugar free popsicles, and sugar free Jello. I was also drinking beef broth and it was actually helping with the salt cravings but since I started sipping it a couple of times a day my weight has creeped up a couple of pounds. This after losing 15 from taking in only liquids. Soooo, I'm frustrated because I still have 5 days to go and now I'm afraid to drink the one thing that actually made the diet tolerable....sad.gif

I started the preop liquids 6 days ago and I am hungry alot of the time. I am drinking my Protein Shakes, then having boullion, SF Jello and popsicles, 1/3 c cottage cheese or yogurt per day and tons of Water. I am surviving but I am hungry. I keep saying to myself that this too, shall pass. My surgery is on 9/9 so I have just a week to go! But no way to 'sugar coat' the preop diet- it totally is awful! Again, I can do it and so can you!

I guess I am lucky. My preop diet is 4 Protein Shakes, sugar free Jello and popsicles, 4 ounces of super lean meat, and all the green veggies I want to eat as long as there is no fat added to them, ie dressings, etc.

Oh you ARE lucky! All I can have is 3 Protein shakes, sugar free jello/popsicles, and clear chicken or beef broth. And of course a bunch of Water. I'd love to be able to add some meat, green veggies, and yogurt. Isn't it funny how different doctors have such different pre diets?rolleyes.gif

Thank you all for your advice!! Jillkm do u mind sending the list? It would be extremely helpful :). Yesterday wasn't too terrible. I'm aloud to have six Protein Shakes a day thankfully. I'm supposed to have slimfast so I tried the cans. Not to appetizing. I also had two sugar free ice pops and sugar free Jello. For dinner I had chicken broth which was sooo good considering I was hungary lol. Today I tried the slimfast powder mix with low fat milk. Omg such a difference. It tastes like a regular milkshake. Definitely better than the cans. Everyone keeps telling me the first couple days of it will be the hardest but I'm think in a few days ill be tired of the shakes and the jello and the damn icepops just like some of u lol. I would kill to have an icecream sundae right about now but I'm staying focused and determined. Cause like all of you, I want this so bad. I'm excited to start my journey to a healthier and "thinner" lifestyle :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
