Is this working?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I'm here to complain again. Or maybe have someone tell me this is normal, or ok or something. I was banded on 1/9/06 and I am down about 18 lbs now. Great right? Well, I don't know if I heal faster than most people or this just isn't working for me. I have no discomfort anymore from the surgery and can eat anything I want. I am only supposed to be on the mushies right now and I was eating steamed broccli and cauliflower for dinner!

I know my time right now is supposed to be for healing. But I'm wondering if I need a fill at my 6 week visit. Will the Doc do this so soon? Am I doing something wrong, did the band slip?

How come it seems weird to me that it doesn't bother me to eat food. I am discouraged that I can eat chicken already and it does'nt bother me. I am actually anticipating feeling like crap after eating something and it's like I was never banded at all!!! HELP!!!!

My dietician told me well steamed vegies were considered mushies anyway. So I wouldnt worry about it.

Six weeks is a common time to get a fill. I was pretty restricted and very unhungry for about five weeks, I was thinking I wouldnt have that first fill when it was scheduled but in the week following, I suddenly got hungry. The first fill hasnt really made a difference, but I certainly cant eat as much at a sitting.

I too was eating almost anything I wanted to about 4-5 weeks out. I didn't have any problems with any type of food. I received my first fill at 6 weeks, which is typical for my surgeon.

Kim,

I was banded in Oct., my Dr. used a large band, which I found out about about on my 10 post op visit. He told me that he leaves the band totally open til the swelling goes down & his patients can ajust to being banded. On my 4th week I had my 1st fill (4cc on a 10cc band). My Dr. is pretty agressive with his fills, I'm at 6cc now & I'm schuduled for my 4th fill on the 6th. I'm feeling pretty restricked & having some trouble adjusting, but I'm digging the high I'm on from the weight loss (54lbs & down 3 sizes) so I may just go for it.

About your eating, my Dr. says that everyone progesses at their own pace, he said you know your body & what it can handle, by 3 weeks post op, I was on a full diet & feeling no restriction, I had to limit food myself, which was tough.

I think you are doing great, relax, be proud of yourself everyday & enjoy the beautiful change that your body is going through.

Kim

Your whole world will change after the fill. Life as you know it pre filled will cease. The sky will cloud and you will truly know that you have made a change forever. Thunder will rise in the west as you must now PB on that twinkie or ho ho that you have tried to ingest. Lightning will strike you as you slime up that piece of gooey ooey bread you once liked to slop in your gravy....

HA HA.... well it DOES change after a fill but I don't know if it is all that dramatic, but it sounded good. I healed fast too and starved during weeks 3-6. Hold on, the change is coming! Stay strong!!! :target:

Hang in there, Jenna's right, as soon as you get that fill, things will be different!

I could eat ANYTHING from about 6 days out. You should get filled at 6 week visit. Good Luck!

Girl, You absolutely crack me up!!!

For me, I am going for my 3rd fill in a few weeks because I still don't have much restriction. I can defintely tell I eat less, but not enough to really lose. So hang in there, it may take one (and yes 6 wks should be fine) or 3-4. Who knows? It hasn't happened for me yet totally, but I still have more hope than ever before, still feel good and haven't lost any weight since my pre-surgery diet! but still everyone is different. congrats on your prgress and let us know how it goes!

I had a hamburger and a few fries on my way home from getting my 3rd fill. Mainly, I wanted to see if I could eat it. Once I hit restriction though, no more of that.

Heyas Kim.. I saw my surgeon last Tuesday for the three week follow-up and expressed concern that I can eat too much at one time. He said the band is wide open still and I should be physically able to eat just like I could prior to surgery. The reason we are on soft foods is so we dont push the band until its good and healed. Remember, you have stitches in your stomach where they pulled the stomach over the band.

Princess was funny but Im afraid there's a lot of thruth in her humor. You shouldnt worry about stuff too much right now. But you should be practicing following the rules. If you dont, youre going to feel that lightning strike!

And 18 pounds!! Excellent! *cheers* Go Kim!

I have no idea where I am since last Monday. My DH took away the scale batteries and I can only weight on Mondays. Youre right on track girl, stop worrying and enjoy the ride! :bananajump:

thanks to all of you. I think I was feeling very whiny when I wrote that post. I feel alot better knowing some of you have gone throught he same thing. I know I am definately not eating as much. I used to be able to kill a large pizza by myself. Tonight my husband got me a small veggie pizza and I could only eat two really small pieces!! So something is working.

Anyway, I think I'm going to start that monthly thing anyway and I feel bloated and like hell to begin with. This too shall pass. :)

Thanks for all your support. I just love this site. :biggrin1:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
