When will the weight start to come off

Recommended Posts

I'm newly banded, only few weeks out now. Wondering when the weight will start to come off. I definitely notice that i am eating less, mainly because I'm not eating everything yet AND I don't want to mess anything up. Will it take me getting a fill FIRST??? I have lost a little but notice that as I start to incorporate the solids, I am getting a fee of those pounds back. :(

When will I see a big difference?? I know it is different for everyone though. Just anxious I guess....

First...not until it's time, not funny I know. Some docs put in a few cc at surgery and often those patiens will see early loss. The first few weeks are for healing. It is also about your body adjusting to the changes you've made. You have a forgein object in your body, you had major surgery and you are changing your lifestyle. This is a lot for the body and mind to adjust to. It isn't easy because if you have a pre op diet you followed, especially if it was most liquid; and then liquids after the surgery when you add back in the mushies and then solids, body gets all happy and grabs those calories. This is normal, it is most important that you follow the rules (yes think of them as rules) that you were given. Measure, don't drink with meals, don't do seconds, eat Proteins first; I was told a min of 65 grams daily and 64 oz of calorie free liquids. It will take your full committment to this. Smile, work and it will come off when it's time for your body to start the process. Your body will change in different ways, not always the scale. Take your body measurements now and weekly and the inches might leave first.

@pink I ask myself the same question. I am 2 months post op and have lost 30 pounds. I would not believe it if the scale did not say it. I can not "tell" yet. Everyone one is different. You may start to notice the small things first. Looser fitting clothes, looking smaller in the mirror etc. Before you know it you would have lost some serious weight. Good luck!

I would say 3 months...at least that's what it took for me. Prior to that, it was a slow time-just being very patient and letting the band ride it's early stages.

Since my 4th fill of 4.5ccs total, I can now see the scale going down and I cannot eat much food at all. Actually I think I might be a tad too tight.

I have lost 32 pounds since my pre-op diet and I can sense the scale going down each week (which is new-since I was stuck at the same weight for weeks). A couple of people said "you look like you lost some weight" but that's about it-no dramatic comments. I still look at pictures and see a fat girl.

I am thinking that next 20 pounds will bring on a dramatic change and I am looking forward to it (plus it will get me in Onederland).

The band is all about patience. There will be a period where you think why did I get this done when it doesn't seem to be doing anything. Then all of a sudden you'll get the fill that does the trick and really helps.

On a side note- I noticed when I started excercising I started losing weight. I think helped to get my metabolism working!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
