Hi Every 1

I just had surgery on Friday the 23rd. I had diarahha after drinking that liquid (Sat afternoon) for my x-ray which i realize is normal but is it normal to still have it sunday at 10 pm. I have absolutely no desire to drink/eat and i am concerned about becoming dehdydrated. I am feeling that gurgling feeling in my stomach which i am assuming is the air still? Am i doing ok should i be concerned?

You are fine!!! That gurgling is completely normal. I didn't want to eat or drink after my surgery either. After any surgery it is normal to feel that way....they just cut you!!! You will do fine. The diarrhea is probably from all the fluids they pumped through you with IV's in the hospital. You can't have a solid stool if you have only had liquids going through your body. You are normal! and you will do fine.....keep posting and take care

Welcome to band land! It's good that, for now, you aren't feeling hungry - that's probably the after-effects of the anaesthetic. I know it's difficult but drinking Water at this stage is important - it may be easier to sip a warm drink like herbal tea, I found that helped a lot. It's easier to drink the water at room temperature too.

Best of luck with your recovery - keep in touch and let us know how you're doing

Hi --

I also had the lovely and charming diaherra after my surgery...it went away as soon as my food starting getting a little more solid.

Good luck.

I had diarrhea for DAYS after my surgery, it was awful! I thought I was the only one! I called my Dr.'s office and the nurse told me to eat some yogurt, which helped slightly but not too much, and also to drink gatorade or something like pedialyte. Even though it tasted nasty I drank some pedialyte, which really helped with the dehydrated feeling. I felt a lot less weak after drinking it. Unfortunately the diarrhea didn't go away until I could eat more substantial Soups =(

Good luck, you'll get through it!!! Just get some baby wipes!

Thanks for your support every one! Every day I feel better and better. I am just trying to survive this liquid diet. It really stinks, but I am sure it will be well worth it! I haven't set a goal weight yet. I am only 5'2 so I am not to tall. I would rather set my goal at a reasonable weight and reach it. Any suggestions? I have already lost 10lbs. I feel like I earned every pound too! Ha ha.

Every one take care!

Mandy

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
