Signed up a couple of weeks ago and and just now found the introdution section. Better late than never i suppose. I went for my seminar on august 9, 2011. I had my first dr. appt on august 15, 2011. Started my pre-op diet on august 19, 2011. My surgery is set for this friday sept 2. I am very excited , but nervous at the same time. My starting weight was 244, i have lost 10 pounds so far on my pre-op diet, so now i am at 234. I am 38 yrs old. I have been married for 17 yrs, and have two beautiful daughters ages 12 and 10. I had a heart attack on february 13, 2008, and a triple heart by-pass on feb 21, 2008. I am so looking forward to getting my life back on track so i can be here for my babies and grandbabies one day. I am very happy to be a part of this website, it is very informative and has helped answer many of my questions so far.

Good Luck with your surgery on Friday!!!! I know that after a bypass this one is a breeze. I am 38 as well and my two children are 13 and 7. I don't have a husband and sometimes I think... I am LUCKY!!!!

I had the surgery so that I can get my health together and be here for my babies as well!!! I am here to support you all the way!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
